wow... so is this thing going to production ? or its another "early concept" that looks nothing like the final product...

rabbitman 01-09-2006 09:50 PM

Hopefully that's pre=production. They're going to have to do something to compete with the Challenger.

DashHavoc 01-09-2006 10:02 PM

The car is still in pre production... but this is the final model what you saw in the pics above and some below. It is schedualed for 2009

This is what road and track had to say, theres also a short vid in there as well

soo nice good competition to what chryslers doin lately but it definatly wont look like that in production

Tomek6 01-11-2006 01:16 AM

Looks amazing. But it won't look as good by 2009. They will probably screw it up like ford did with the current mustang. The pre production models were wide and low and had a wide ass. The production version is completely different and none of it in a good way. And if chevy DOESN'T change the car then they will probably want too much $$$ for it.

It seems like it's based on the same Chassis of the GTO. It's also using the 6.0L motor with the 6 speed transmission the GTO is using. It looks like chevy is just adding the body work.

That being said if there's a new Comaro, doesn't that mean there should be a new Firebird :D

I believe that the GTO is on the GM Zeta platform and the new Camaro is said to be on a Zeta lite platform. I heard that the Zeta lite is just a slightly smaller platform(smaller wheelbase) it is more like a streched solstice/sky. As for the Firebird it was originally introduced after the Camaro in 1967, by only a few months, so we'll have to wait and see.

I am going this friday to Detroid to Auto Show myself. I will try to touch it. :)

That simply is not true, the production Mustang is identical to the concept other than a higher ride height necessary for obvious reasons.

The current GTO is built on the V platform (Cadillac Catera, Opel Omega). Both the new GTO and Camaro if produced will be built on the Zeta platform which is not related at all to the Solstice/Sky Kappa platform which is actually based on the Corvette.

Nah man it can't be. Look how sick it looks in this pic and everything just went down the shitter with the production version. The car looks thinner and taller. and not only because of the ride height.
