Back in 1999, the American Club Racing (ACR) model was introduced to improve on the already powerful Viper platform. The Viper ACR engineers primarily focused on the improvment of handling on and off track, modifying the brakes suspention and aerodynamics -- I suppose this is fitting since the head designer of the Viper Carrol Shelby did the same madifucations mostly back in the 60s.

The ACR suspension includes coil-over racing dampers from KW Suspensions that are adjustable for damping and ride height. The shocks are two-way adjustable without removing the wheels – a timesaver on the track – and they include a large range for compression and rebound. The KW dampers and forks are machined from solid aluminum billet, feature spherical bearing mounts, and are optimized to minimize weight and maximize performance. A new front stabilizer bar increased roll-stiffness.

Lightweight forged aluminum Sidewinder wheels were optimized by using Finite Element Analysis to achieve a lower rotating unsprung mass. Finished in gloss black paint, they wear Michelin Pilot Sport Cup DOT-approved race tires, providing enhanced grip on the track.

The ACR's engine isn't touched which makes sense since it is already producing 600 horsepower. As mentioned above, the ACR holds the fastest lap time at Nürburgring (Nordschleife). This iss an incrdible feat considering what it has beat: Corvette ZR1, Maserati MC12, Ferrari Enzo, 2009 Nissan GT-R and every other car on the road.

nice. guess gms gonna have to mod the zr1 a bit maybe put some of those gay maxi pad flaps on it to give it some downforce and take back the title. what did the zr1 run it in?

judgez24 11-11-2008 08:03 PM

also that thing is sitting on a dot race tire. ive seen dot race tires. they often include race compound rubber with a small groove down the middle, lol.

The ZR1 had an unofficial old record at 7:22.4 but the official lap time is 7:26.4. Its hard to tell how much it would gain tho, down the huge straight and some more of the straight parts the ZR1 reall gains alot of time. On the strait: ZR1 over 175mph ACR about 150mph. So gain time in cornerrs but loose top speed? Its one of the biggest problems in racing :P

VindiCated 11-11-2008 09:13 PM

they need to lower the rear end a bit more.

quarts 11-11-2008 09:29 PM
