77 Project Update

So we ordered new headliner, and are working on carpet. The old board under the liner looks real good so I think we're going to try and recover it. Here are a couple of pictures before I got all the panels and trim out. Don't mind the nasty, moldy, original carpet.

The console looks pretty bad in the rear. Not sure what's going to happen with that. Also, the dashpad is really cloudy and sticky. I think it's a black pad with buckskin vinyl painted on. Anyone have any idea what I could clean that with without taking off the buckskin paint?

carpet...where did you order from?

CheM 07-18-2007 06:16 PM

Ebay. Some guy who has a store full of reproduction interior parts. It matches the color code on the door. It's the same style and it's pre-molded for 74-77 I think. Should line right up with a little trimming.

nice progress

Yeah, it's a lot of fun to mess with. In the next couple of days I'm going to be scrubbing these panels down like mad. I did one today and it looks brand new. The interior should be cruise car/show worthy when we get done. We're kind of working in reverse, though. It would be nice to get it stripped, sanded, and sprayed while the interior is all out of it. I think it would have to sit for a few weeks before the money for that comes in, though.

It'll be sweet when ya get it done, but trust me, I did all this with the Ventura and it takes forever and a day to finish the restoration lol.

ITSA6 07-18-2007 09:01 PM

yeah the malibu hasn't had carpet since we have had it and right now only the seats are in it...money is a *****

True, but we've got plenty of time to piece it together. I'm trying not to get too anxious, but it seems like we do a little bit every couple days. Running an auto shop means we walk by it 100 times a day. I think that gives a little energy.

We went to AutoZone and bought some chrome lugnuts and .44 magnum valve stem caps. It's hilariously awesome.

hope you got the carpet cheap, the acc stuff only runs about $130 from most suppliers

CheM 07-18-2007 11:23 PM

I think it was around $115 shipped.

archemedes 07-19-2007 12:09 AM

about right. I bet it's acc

CheM 07-19-2007 12:19 AM

No idea really. It was just a large store someone setup on ebay. It's cut-pile, pre-molded. Original GM color approved and all that good stuff. Either way, it looks like what's in it and it isn't ratty and moldy.

archemedes 07-19-2007 12:36 AM

that would be acc the only carpet brand to buy
