AC Schnitzer natural gas powered world record: video
damn fast
Modified Luxury & Exotics AC Schnitzer recently set a world record for the fastest speed recorded by a propane or natural gas powered vehicle. During the Continental Tires High Speed test at the Nardo facility in Italy the 3 Series hit an astonishing 197.7 mph. There is more to this 3 Series than meets the eye, however. Under the hood can be found a 5.0-liter engine from a BMW M5 that was converted to use natural gas. AC Schnitzer engineers then bolted on a few horsepower-enhancing goodies (like their wicked sounding exhaust system) to produce a total of 552 hp. As is obvious the GP3.10 Gas Powered (as AC Schnitzer has dubbed it) has a unique aerodynamic enhancement kit that helps it achieve such astronomical speeds. Inside the massive 20-inch Type VI Racing Wheels can be found eight-piston front brakes with 14.7-inch rotors and inside the rear wheels are four-piston calipers with 13.7-inch rotors. While this car was built to showcase what a natural gas powered engine can do that does not mean AC Schnitzer engineers ripped out the interior for added performance. On the contrary, the interior of the GP3.10 is a work of art with custom seats and dash in original new designs with high quality leather and Alcantara throughout. |
