Changing rear main seal

Changed my rear main seal over the weekend. it was a little bit difficult but we managed to get it all back together and it hasnt leaked again yet (knock on wood). we cleaned up a bunch of the parts and stuff, cause they were so nasty and grimey. All caked on dirt and oil. heres some pictures.

good job. Not exactly an easy task.

pain in the but on jackstands, fairly easy on a lift with air tools, but you earned it not to leak

my rear main seal is getting done now. we don't have the equipment nor the time to do it ourselves, so its a nice 500 dollar bill after tax and labor. the killer part is that the labor is not bad but the transmission needs to be dropped which is like 350 bucks. anyways...good work.

sweet man! good job! put black stripeso n ure car to match ure pop's

thanks, it was a helluva a job and took 2 days to do about. when my go fast stuff is done i will prolly get a cowl hood and paint it gloss black with an LT1 logo on the cowl. i dont want regular stripes but i think hockey stick stripes would look good.

archemedes 07-07-2005 03:38 PM

the whole hood gloss black? that looks goofy like you need to get it painted

69z-28 07-07-2005 07:34 PM

no, it looks goofy when its flat black, cause then everyone knows its not painted. if its gloss it will signify "its painted and done and its not gonna change color" lol.

archemedes 07-07-2005 10:26 PM

so it looks like gel coat, and a ricer part (gel coat is gloss)looks unfinished, or like you had to replace the hood with a used one, black accents would look better

i haev the stock hood but with black "heat extractors" its kinda cool comin down the road at you, but i think if it didnt have the black on the hood it would be too much yellow, so i think i need to do a black hood, because with a cowl hood you can relly do anything black accented. you know whta i mean?

Bernotas05 07-07-2005 11:00 PM

Dont do it, paint it yellow and do some black accents on it, stripes or somethin. That would look silly black like you just took it from a black car and threw it one, just my opinion

that's what I'm saying

69z-28 07-07-2005 11:38 PM

what kinda accents would i do tho? im not doing stripes, and the big cowl part would be way too much yellow.

archemedes 07-07-2005 11:40 PM

a couple stripes down the sides of the cowl breaks it up nice. Maybe Grant or Danielle can photoshop it so you can see how it would look

yea, something different. but idk what. painting it is not a problem but figuring out how i could paint it is.
