Kubica crashes Canadian GP
 

By all accounts, yesterday's Canadian Grand Prix was one of the most entertaining races in recent memory. Unfortunately for Lewis Hamilton, who took his first Formula One victory, his achievements driving for McLaren were overshadowed by the considerable amount of contact that took place between drivers and solid objects.

The most horrific crash could have easily taken the life of BMW driver Robert Kubica, who was coming into the hairpin at upwards of 180 MPH when he lost steering control and slammed, head-on, into one of the barriers. From there, he was punted across the track, missing a few of his competitors, hitting the adjacent wall and finally coming to rest on his side. Reports say that he came away with only a broken leg, although BMW had't confirmed that as of this writing, which judging by the video footage after the jump, speaks volumes about how far safety equipment has come in motorsport.

thank god my Polish brother is alive and well! Anyway didn't 2 drivers get 10 second penalties because they "added" to the event?

Also MASSA from ferrari got disqualifed or something because he exited the pits on a red light, I believe there was another guy that followed him out and also got disqualifed but I forget his name...

I wonder how long the F1 circus is going to stay in North America considering the standard on your tracks. It's like asking to get killed driving on them, and is this track is considered one of the best, I sure don't want to see the others. Having a concrete wall just 10 meters from the track when coming in 180 is Not a good idea.

Otherwise, my congrats to Hamilton, he did a good job and the race sure was entertaining.

HA HA HA, you are funny, looks like you know alot about racing. So you are saying european MONACO race is safer than Canadian or indiapolis? Racing is never safe, thats is the atrubute of the racing, not everyone can have guts to do it, thats why we likr to watch it.

I race go-karts in Hamilton ( one of the safest gokarts and track, 10meters of open gravel around the track) and yet, people still find ways to hurt themselfs doing 50-60kméh. Whaty you expect at 300kméh

The most fatalities in F1, are at Nurburgring. Modena is second, and Imola 3rd. There is only one fatality at Montreal, back in 1982. Imola claimed Senna and Ratzenberger in 1994. I beleive there were 2 fatalities at Watkins Glen in the 70's, leading up to the creation of the chicanes.

He didn't even break his leg.

"Less than 24 hours after his dramatic high-speed accident in Canada, BMW Sauber driver Robert Kubica has been discharged from hospital. Kubica drove himself away from Montreal’s Hospital du Sacre Coeur on Monday, after he received the all clear from doctors.

The 22 year-old was treated for a light concussion and a sprained ankle after the incident, which was caused when the Pole's BMW Sauber collided with the rear of Jarno Trulli’s Toyota on Lap 27 of Sunday’s Canadian Grand Prix.

“I have no pain and feel well,” he explained. “I want to thank everyone for the medical attention I received and for all the good wishes. Mario Theissen and other team members came to visit me and also thanks to Jarno Trulli who came as well. I am happy that I have been able to leave the hospital so quickly and will now prepare for the race in Indianapolis.”

Kubica, however, will have to wait until Thursday to get the official green light to race at this weekend’s United States Grand Prix. He will undergo further checks by the FIA medical delegate before BMW Sauber announces its driver line-up for the Indianapolis event."

I do not consider Monaco as a safe track. However, the race in Monaco gives the circus its biggest profits and thats why they won't take it off the GP.
