If Mike's name sounds familiar, it should – the G35 isn't Mike's first award winning project. In fact, his previous supercharged, hardtop Honda S2000 was featured in several magazines, including Import Tuner, and scored dozens of trophies. When the car was finished – modified to the nth degree and finished traveling to every major car show within driving (no trailers here) distance – Mike retired it. Most would have left well enough alone and be happy to check out the trophy room once in a while. Mike though was far from done in the car show scene. Looking for a new challenge, he found it in the Infiniti G35. With a JDM Skyline lineage, a 280 hp VQ35 engine, two extra seats in the back, and killer good looks from the factory, who could blame him? In April 2004, hot on the release of the car, Wasser traveled 4 hours north to Infiniti's port in New Jersey to pick up the only G35 coupe he could find on the east coast at the time.

And unlike his Honda project, where he gradually transformed the car from stocker to shocker, he had a plan firmly in mind and ready to execute even as he drove the G's first virgin miles back home to Chantilly, Virginia – a result of his engineer training. Parts from around the world started collecting in the Wasser home as the count down to the massive transformation began. With only a few ticks more than the New Jersey-Virginia mileage on the odometer, Mike drove the car into the installation bay of Evolution Auto Sports (Chantilly, VA) and closed the door on the G35's short factory-stock life. Although more than a few show cars, by their nature, never end up on the track, Mike was determined to build an all-around car capable of more than winning a few trophies. After all, a good car can be a NCCA class winner, but only a great car would win a NCCA championship. Not to mention, he could probably use some horsepower help with all the weight that would be added with all the audio and electronics he intended to install.

With that in mind, he took delivery of a Vortech Centrifugal Supercharger – very similar to the one installed on his S2K – and did what any competent car show competitor would do; he had it polished. Not a bad idea since the Vortech snail sits in plain view just behind the left side headlight. A Crawford Plenum was also polished and bolted on, DC Sports stainless steel headers were added, a Spearco intercooler, and Vortech's blow-off valve, fuel management unit, and fuel pump completed the pressurized system. That's it you ask? You're right, that's not enough. Mike agrees and that's why he added a Nitrous Express EFI Stage I kit and N-Tercooler kit for added cooling both inside and outside the system. The result? At full tilt, the 3.5 L VQ now punches out, via a ClutchMasters Stage IV clutch, 412 horsepower to the wheels – which happens to be sweet 19" Top Secret Gold colored Volk Racing LE37Ts wrapped in Toyo Tires T1-S rubber. But we digress. Back to the engine compartment – after all, all that combusted air and fuel need somewhere to go. The escape route is nice and fast thanks to a Random Technologies high-flow catalytic converters and an Invidia Ti titanium exhaust.

After the engine work was completed, D&V Autobody took care of transforming the exterior to match its new, even more aggressive attitude. The look is clearly JDM inspired, with a Top Secret front bumper leading the way. A Seibon TS carbon fiber hood and Ings +1 fenders, side skirts, and rear bumper skirt – all carefully paint matched - were added to complete the aero modifications. A lowered stance comes courtesy of TEIN Type CS Coilovers fitted with the TEIN Electronic Damping Force Controller-EDFC – which allows Mike to select his suspension dampening force from the driver's seat. Hotchkis Sport Sway Bars, Rear Camber Links, and Rear Toe Links were added not as show pieces, but to complement the Tein suspension in tightening up an already sporty suspension. If you look behind the golden Volk wheels, you'll see Wilwood BBK 6 piston brakes and slotted rotors peeking out at you – which stop even better than they look. The finishing touches were a full selection of JDM Skyline 350GT emblems, JDM clear corner signal lamps, and sharp Competition Graphix vinyl graphics.

Inside the G35's cabin, the mods are conservative and tasteful. Custom grey Alcantera suede Recaro Sportline Seats have a stock, from the factory look; as does a Nismo gauge cluster and Nismo GT Titanium Shift Knob. Even the Defi Boost and Exhaust gauges have been carefully incorporated into a center console panel that angles the gauges toward the drivers – details, details, details. A JDM double-din conversion hides a Sony Flip Monitor head unit and DVD player. Look a little closer and you might spot the Nitrous Express switches and the JDM Skyline coupe kick plates and pedals. You might also see the Sony PS2 system that is hidden under the glove compartment. And the PS2 system is only the tip of the I.C.E.berg – the car spent weeks at the aptly-named Creative Car Tunes for an all out competition quality system that includes a trunkful of Sony XS subwoofers, Sony XM amplifiers, and Sony XS speakers – all carefully incorporated into a custom fiberglass enclosure that's equal parts art and technology. Even the NX nitrous bottle is incorporated into the enclosure and the fiberglass system is continued on the underside of the trunk lid. Maybe as an entertaining eyecandy for Mike's newborn son Ayden, or maybe just to add another feature for car show crowds to buzz about – one of our favorite features of the sound installation is a rear seat center console fiberglass creation that incorporates Stinger power capacitors, fuse holders, and connects; in a homage to everyone's favorite time travel flick (Back to the Future of course), the artful creation is tagged with "Flux Capacitor" in the center.

Mike's been showing the car with the rest of Team Emotion for a little more than a year and you can bet he's been cleaning up. The Infiniti earned Mike the 2005 NCCA Infiniti class National Championship and he's taken 4 first place HIN trophies and 3 others already this year. With credentials like that – it's why you can't talk Virginia car show scene without a little "Emotion", and hard not to see why Mike's 2004 G35 really is a ShowStopper.
