The SEMA Show brings together the country's most elite show cars. It's a pecking order where a lot of the mild rides get parked outside to serve as an appetizer to what waits within the confines of the Vegas Convention Center while the extreme and clean get a coveted spot in a booth. Even if you score a spot inside, bragging rights are earned by what booth you're in and where it's located. If you're Brian Filoteo, you score high with the tuner crowd for location and presentation of your 2005 Mitsubishi Evo VIII.

First off, Brian's Evo sat in the Central Hall which is prime SEMA real estate. And the booth it was in? It was none other than the quarters of Mackin Industries, the company that gets regular shipments of containers that when opened are a JDM guru's vision of heaven. If it's going to be displayed along side walls of Volks, Advans and ARC products you know the car has to be tiptop.

The Evo isn't Filoteo's first effort at building a show car. After spending time cleaning house on the show circuit with his 2003 Acura RSX Type-S, he strayed from the H Camp to begin working on the turbocharged AWD, off-the-showroom-floor super sedan. One of the shocking things about the Mitsubishi is that it only took about two months to build. Even more shocking is that despite its flawless exterior, the Evo gets driven daily on the streets and highways of Oxnard, Calif.

Merging onto Highway 101 is made more enjoyable with the help of an induction box from ARC, Helix test pipe, JIC three-inch down pipe, and a JIC three-inch exhaust crafted from titanium. Cooling down the intake charge is an upgraded front-mount intercooler with the initials ARC proudly peeking out from the front bumper while the radiator also wears the prestigious Abbey Road Company insignia. If the need arises for more horsepower, a few quick movements on the Power Enterprise boost controller and the only evidence left of the Evo is the distant sound of the HKS SSQV as it whooshes between shifts.

The 4G63T is also shod with a long list of aesthetic-improving items too. The onslaught of ARC goods continues with their oil catch can, titanium spark plug cover, turbo manifold cover and oil cap. Adding more color to the engine bay and improving durability are red silicon hoses from Samco and Sun Auto's Hyper Inazma system keeps the electrical system operating at peak efficiency. In the works for the four-cylinder are a bunch of new upgrades that should push the 2.0-liter deep into the 500s when it comes to horsepower numbers.

When the ponies enter half-century territory it's going to give new meaning to hold on to your seats. Staying in place when the loud throttle is mashed will be a lot easier for Filoteo and his passenger now that a pair of JIC buckets sit between the two front doors. Hopefully it will never be needed, but if the unfortunate happens there is a Cusco six-point roll cage to protect the cabin.

The Sun Auto name also resurfaces in the Evo's cockpit with their Cyber Speed shift knob and Cyber Speed racing pedals. Gone is the Mitsu steering wheel and in its place is a Nardi Sport wheel with red stitching to match the JIC seats connects to a Splash short steering hub. The car is a daily driver and guiding the way to unknown addresses is a Pioneer AVIC-N1 in-dash navigation unit which can also play MP3s, CDs and DVDS. To keep from doing some unintentional custom work to the rear bumper a Pioneer backup camera was installed to display what is behind the car on the seven-inch monitor.

We did mention the car was in Mackin's booth at SEMA which means it's only fitting that the car be wearing their rollers. After driving around on a set of 18-inch Gram Light 57S-Pro wheels for a while, Brian has switched over to 18-inch Advan RSs in a dark gunmetal finish with Falken Azenis ST115 tires sized 245/40 on all four corners. The darker wheels not only give the Evo a completely different look, but they also make the teal Project Mu six-piston calipers more noticeable.

Project Mu brakes and Advan wheels aren't the only things on the exterior that grab attention. The not-so-subtle C-West front bumper provides a nice wide opening for air to get to the ARC intercooler. FRP front fenders from Charge Speed and Charge Speed side skirts make the side profile as equally aggressive as the front and a Seibon Gialla-Style carbon fiber hood lightens and means things up top. Since cars riding at the stock height with body kits only belong in Manny, Moe and Jack's parking lot, Brian dropped the Evo with JIC's flagship coilovers, the FLTA-2s. Rounding out the suspension mods are front and rear strut bars also from JIC.

Some guys have all the luck. Not only was Filoteo's Evo able to be in a prime location for thousands of enthusiasts to ogle over for a week straight, it was actually driven to and back from the show. Not bad for a car that was whipped into SEMA shape in only two months.
