The Evo. In the short time that its been available on our shores, the Mitsubishi Evolution VIII has already ascended the ranks to the upper echelons of the tuning stratosphere. And even in that rarified air, there are still stratum separating lesser Evos from advanced ones. Count XS Engineering’s EVO 8 among the frothy top layer of tuned Evos. Conceived as XS Engineering’s idea of what the epitome of an all purpose street car should be, their 2003 Evo VIII was originally purchased for product development. Well, that development has turned the car into a 450hp well balanced package. The XS Engineering Evo VIII stomps the ground and all comers with 390hp to all four wheels on 91 octane and 472hp on race gas.

Capable of being daily driven in reasonable comfort, the suspension boasts custom valved JIC coilovers, XS custom fabricated Delrin suspension bushings, Carbing strut tower brace, Carbing chassis braces, and Carbing sway bars. The end result is razor sharp handling with exceptional driver feedback. The engine utilizes a stock bottom end with an XS Engineering ported and polished head. XS Racemax Camshafts (272) and an Apex Power FC D-jetro ECU allows for a near stock idle and silky smooth driveability. Try that with a flashed ECU! Clutch engagement is like stock with an ACT Heavy Duty clutch kit. Overall, this car drives like stock around town but is extremely fast in the twisties.

This is the same car that Tarzan Yamada drove in Sport Compact Car's Time Attack in March 2004 and has been featured in Import Tuner, Sport Compact Car (2004 EVO Challenge), and Road & Track's SPEED. At Sport Compact Car's EVO Challenge, when the car had a stock turbo and the XS Racemax 272 camshafts, the XS Evo produced the highest and broadest torque band of all other EVOs. The XS EVO's powerband came in 500 rpm earlier than every other car. In a recent test done by Road & Track's SPEED magazine, this EVO cranked out 1.03g's in the skidpad, accelerated from 0-60 in 3.4 seconds, and cleared the quarter mile in 11.6 seconds.

bov not even welded to the intercooler piping, looks like its using the bolt on flange from the regular eclipse/talon application... you think when going this far with their show car, the least they could have done is order a proper flange and welded it to the intercooler piping, so it doesnt look like ricers first BOV install...

no surprise i guess, whole car looks like its just built with bolt on parts from their catalogue, i sincerely doubt they do any real fabrication in house

ya i hear ya allan....i LOVE evo 8's hands down...i just don't liek how they styled the exterior....and htat harness brace is kinda gay also...

still a SICK car :>

kyriian 10-13-2006 06:55 PM

that harness shouldnt be done like that.... at an almost 180 degree angle you are pushing the boundaries of the harness and at an accident, that harness will break the harness bar and completely lose the holding on the harness bar

Nice looking car but looks like it was built in a rush, the bov is one thing, the harness bar another and the zip ties on the wastegate hoses also, but looks good.
