Top Speed Skyline

Do you remember the feeling you got, the first time you saw a super car in action? I sure do, and seeing the pictures of this 1999 Nissan Skyline from Top Speed Auto in Chicago, brought all those memories and feelings flooding back. Some will argue that the Skyline isn’t in the same league as other super cars, but having ridden shotgun and driven in my fair share of "real" super cars, I can honestly say that I think these cars are definitely in the same class.

The name Skyline usually evokes thoughts of AWD fire breathing monsters, and rightfully so. These cars are some of the finest mechanical feats of engineering ever created.

Joey Feng owns the car, and is proprietor of Top Speed Auto Accessories 2877 S.Archer Ave. Chicago IL, 60608 www.topspeedchicago.com , located in Chicago's China town. Joey bought the car from a family friend who had purchased the car from Motorex in California www.motorex.com . Motorex specializes in importing Skylines and legalizing them for sale here in the U.S.

Owning a shop like Top Speed Auto Accessories means that you can’t drive a stock car, even if it is a Skyline. Starting with the exterior modifications is probably easiest, once you get under the hood it gets rather complex. So here we go.

The car now sports a Do-Luck full body kit, including trick fiberglass replacement front fenders, and carbon fiber spoiler. Do luck also came to the table with a set of it’s double 6 rims, at 18 inches at each corner in order to help keep this monster grounded. Keeping with the theme of grounding this beast Tein was contacted for suspension duties, and a set of their CS coilovers was installed and sets the perfect ride height, as well as keeping things somewhat compliant when Joey decides to unleash the power under the hood.

Under the hood is where this car really shines. Starting with the stock RB26 is a phenomenal basis. However for some people, enough just isn’t enough. So Joey called in all the big guns on this project. Names like HKS, Blitz, Greddy, and Nismo are all in use in the engine compartment. JE stepped up with a set of forged low compression pistons, while HKS was contacted for their downpipe and single turbo upgrade, as well as their fuel injectors, fuel rail, cam gears, intake filters, and exhaust. Cooling the intake charge the job is relegated to a Blitz Front mount intercooler. Apex-i was contacted for their ECU to keep everything in check under the hood as well. So far the car is reportedly tuned to a somewhat conservative 500 WHP, and was tuned by Max at Sound Performance. Performance is great, but with a car that looks like this on the outside, you need a little bling under the hood. So Joey had some other under hood components chromed as well. Keeping all the power going to the wheels is an Exedy triple plate clutch. An AEM wideband O2 Sensor/Gauge make sure that Joey knows if the air fuel ratio stays stoich, and as far away from lean where possible. A Nismo Oil cap, Nismo strut bar Nismo radiator cap, rounds out things under the hood.

Keeping things real on the interior Joey went with a Nismo Gauge cluster in MPH Eclipse Dual din head unit with dvd player mated to a PPI amp and JL audio subwoofer to have something to listen to when he’s not listening to the symphony of engine and exhaust noise.

Driving a GTR is something that most enthusiasts only dream of,owning one just seems impossible. So you have to hope that every time Joey hits the key, he realizes just how lucky he is. Congratulations on building a great car Joey.
