Aux input on stock stereo

Hey all. I just got myself a Camaro and it has the Monsoon stereo in it. From what I've been told it is pretty good so I don't want to change it for aftermarket.

But on my previous car I have an auxiliary hookup to my aftermarket stereo. I've been told there is an adapter to get auxiliary inputs on the stock HU. I can't seem to find the right one. Sounddomain's site isn't working and I can't find it on crutchfield.

Help me out here please.

there are adapters, but they run about the same as an aftermarket radio, the monsoon is a joke at best (most people find the basic one sounds better) I have the adapters available (I will have to check on price there is one for every brand and they change year to year so price varies)

right now it is looking discontinued as both my distributors no longer list it. AOEM-GM21 is for the Camaro up to '98

The adapters I have come across run around $50. I would never buy an aftermarket stereo for $50. If anything I may end up transferring the Sony unit that was in my Grand Am over to the Camaro. The monsoon amp can be connected to an aftermarket HU, right?

bypass the "amp" (it puts out maybe 15 watts at most) the adapter used to run about $80 which is where many basic cd players start

My old camaro had the BOSE system in my old 95 camaro, and i have to say for a stock system it wasnt too bad but the way it was tuned from chevrolet the car had only 2 speakers that would put out mids and highs, the back 2 speakers and the one in the trunk were all subs and all this was a PITA to bypass in my old car and thats why im thanking god my new car doesnt have it.

you can add an aux by physically opening the radio and modding it although IMO the headunit is a pos

Pickup an aftemarket anything for 150 (pioneer) get the standard gm wiring harness and call it a day

Well, I'll be pulling my Sony HU from my GA. The only think I am concerned with is the wiring to the speakers. I was reading something on the CamaroV6 forums that using a harness and a "Level converter" would allow an after market HU to work with the speakers. Is that right?

they make a unit to interface with the factory amp, runs a bit over $30 and a wire harness runs at most $15

You do not need a special adapter at all, get the regular gm wiring harness wire it up like normal plug in and go. the monsoon system needs nothing special, i repeat you dont need any special BS

have you gotten it to work? Most guys just run new wires (keep in mind that not all monsoon systems are the same either)

on both monsoon and bose f-bodys all you need is the regular gm wiring harness wire it up like normal plug in and it will work no questions asked. On bose systems sometimes the volume can be very touchy and you have to wire it up a bit differently utilizing the rca jacks but there are no need for special adapters. I have installed countless stereos in fbodies

Shad0wguy 11-06-2007 10:31 AM

Well, I can always get the harness and try it. Worst case scenario would be I am out the $10 for the harness.

pentavolvo 11-06-2007 02:58 PM

as long as the stereo in stock form works it will work with the harness
