What is the function of capacitors? how are these "caps" hooked up? when do you need them and do you always need them?

Waste of money, upgrade your wiring and battery if the lights are dimming. I have over 1500 w rms no stupid cap just 1 gauge wire and stock battery.

Capacitors store energy in them when theyre charged up. They are used because they can release power to an amp quicker than a stock electrical system in your car which will cure the dimming lights etc. A good cheap solution to a factory stock car with a small system.

The only problem is that capacitors store a very small amount of power. A battery holds the equivalent of 2200 Farads. A small car stereo battery mounted in the trunk would be a much smarter move.

Thats why i said its cheaper for small systems with a small amount of power :lol_hitti

Its not really worth it, a cap doesn't really stop you lights from dimming, the only thing they are really good for is if you have 2 quick base note together that require alot of power. But since the cap drains in a split second all is does is add another item to your cars charging system. You would be better to run a secondary battery or a larger alternator.

i'm still loss..so does it make the system bump harder??

a cap is basically a fast charge/discharge battery. With a high drain system when power is used from the battery it cause other accessories to lack power hence the dimming. But with a cap the power need for the amp is store in the capacitor and doesnt strain the battery. But honestly i dont think there that important. I used to run 2 1000 watt amps on a canadian tire battery and a stock single cam alternator and never had any problems. Obviously the lights dimmed a bit but nothing major.
