what brand makes a good car alarm?? my friends 96 gt got stolen from right in front of his house and it made me think alot about mine gettin taken. anyways what do they protect. how much do they run? and are they easy to install??

excalibur is great, but any alarm is only as good as the install. They can protect as much as you want if you get enough channels, to install one correctly you need to know the vehicles wiring very well, and pull a good amount of interior out. I also suggest a battery backup. Viper isn't bad, it's just not the best out there. I have crime stopper and have been happy also they can run from $99 and up the more you pay the better it works normally

I have crime stopper and I like it. Like was said earlier it's not the best, but i'm not gonna pay a bunch extra for something that will do about the same thing

my biggest tip is to get one that has the LCD pager on it. Mine has that and I absolutely love it -- if the alarm is tripped and you're within range of the FM antenna it comes with (the range is like a quarter of a mile, so you could be in the middle of Walmart and your car be in the back of the parking lot and you'd still get the page) then it pages your LCD remote and alerts you of what's going on with your car, be it a door open, someone bumping the sensor, opening the hood, trunk, etc. It always makes me feel a lot more secure about my car knowing that before anyone could get very far, 90% of the time (the rare 10% that I'm out of range..) my LCD pager will alert me when it's happening.

anyone hear anythign good about the poerlocker?? and just dont want my car stolen i dont want my system (main reason worried and gettin alarm stuff) so can u get another like window break detector???????

the install is a ***** because like Arch said, you gotta know the wiring pretty good. My dad and I sat in the car with a multimeter measuring voltages of each wire underneath the driver side dash and it took 2 and a half days (maybe a few hours at most each day) to get it all installed. Otherwise, **** I love my alarm. There's more recent ones out there on ebay that will automatically unlock your door when the remote gets within 10m of the alarm's module... that's kinda pimp. Oh, and yeah I got mine off ebay too. The good part is that the auction now has a lot of information, mine didn't come with ANY information.. it was only a few months ago I learned how to program the time on the remote. It has remote start, as well as an alarm on the remote and you can program the remote to turn the car on automatically at a certain time. I used to program it before I went to bed to start the car at 7 when I knew I'd have to leave at 7:15... it's kinda cool.

ok.. say i were to get that alarm off ebay ...and i didnt feel like doing the install.. would a company install it for me or do i have to buy from their vender or something in order for them to install it for me?

usually the little stores and stuff will do it for you, but Best Buy or such probably won't.
