Dust?

Is it possible to have your Deck overheat and stop playing CDs because of it?

As I was driving home last night, my CD player (when I put a CD in) would spin, but continually squeek causing the CD to "skip", but it would continue squeeking and cutting out until it wouldnt read the CD anymore. About an hour later I tried it again, and it just randomly worked for about an hour and then it started cutting out again until it couldnt read the CD and gave me an error. When I took the CD out it was blazing hot.

Its done this before, and Im starting to wonder what the hell is going on with all this electrical shorting, and now its not even reading CDs, Im starting to think its just dying. I have a Pioneer deck, I can check the number if anyone can use the info to help me. I cleaned it with one of those cd cleaners, and it wasnt doing the squeeking at all, and as soon as a put a CD in it started doing the squeeking again.

All you stereo gurus, please help me out. Should I start looking for a new deck now?

Dust shouldn't make jus tthe cd stop working, unless the lens is so dirty it won't read, but if you play alot of cd's the motor may burnup, especially in a stock pos deck, sorry haven't been around, working a bunch, and trying to get the store setup (made a couple thousand item catalog database to start with)

its cool arch, thanks for the reply :) Im not sure, I think the deck was made in 96, at least the manual was, so Im thinking its time to upgrade which I will be doing by summer Im thinking. Do you think my deck going out, if it is the problem, could be an explanation for the random shut offs also?

I just realized last night when I was talking to my dad that cd players have been pretty ****** for me. Ive gone through so many stereos/cd changers/portable cd players its crazy. Some companies should really bump up their manufacturing.. or I should spend more money :lolsign:
