Finally blew a sub.
Finally blew a sub.
I think one of my JL's finally blew. I have been looking at replacements and a pair of 12inch Alpine Typr R's are looking kind of good right now. I wish I could go with the MTX 9500 but I don't feel like investing that much in a system. I'm going to have to replace my RF amp too since it doesn't put out nearly enough juice to power two Typr R's. So roughly 1000 watts on two Type R 12's, should make a nice little bumping sound.
Type Rs sound pretty good. I don't know what your Rockford amp is putting out, but my friend had two Type Rs hooked up to an audiobahn 800 watt 2 channel amp in his explorer, and they bump a decent amount but not quite to their potential. What JLs did you have?
type r's are good subs..
but be a man step up.. go withone type R fifteen and let loose some real noise.. that an a hifonics zeus 1000D or 1800D would blow your hatch clean off and you can do it all for about $800 bucks.. that is if you can build your own box..

One Type R 15 would only take around 750 watts RMS (according to Alpine).
Two Type R 12's could handle a 1000 watts and have a lot more cone area.
I'm not seeing how the 15 would win unless I ported the box and played test tones at the tuning frequency of the box.

the type r 12's will handle a bit more power. 2 12's rarely have a real higher spl than 1 15 even though there is more cone area because of the mass moving (at least from what I saw when competeing) let me know if you decide to go with those subs, and I'll check stock for you
The RE subs are looking pretty good now and at least with those I would have a sub that no one else around here would have. I like 2Poor4Z's idea but I might see if I can take it a step further. On my next day off I will do some measuring and see if it would be possible to put two Type R15's in my trunk. They require about 1.3 cubic feet per sub so I figure a little over 3 cubic feet (once you add in sub displacement) would be a decent box. If I don't have enough room I guess I could always throw in some poly fill but I have never heard a box stuffed with poly fill so I have no idea if it will sound good or not.
Hmm if that is true then I will need around 3.5 cubic ft and I know I cannot get that out of my trunk. Buddy of mine said I should just put them where the back seat was but shaping a box out of MDF like that will not be fun and I do not feel like fiber glassing a box right now. How much of a difference do you think the poly fill will make?
I would advise you to check your wires through & through before making an assumption that they blew. I thought one of my JVL's blew but it was just a wireing problem...
I have 2 JVL 10' in a sub QLogic Bandpass box and a 2 channel kicker impulse AMP. I hit harder than 12's..
Got enough tickets to prove my a$$ so I keep it down some...
Also, I wouldnt listen to that BullSh*t about bridging your AMP, you can overheat the amp..
