HElP Wiring Issue, car radio stays on Always, Even w/o the key or even w/o the car on

Car is a 2000 Honda civic. Car’s switch power line ( I think yellow w/ red stripe) isn’t working so I wired 2 wires onto straight to the battery. THE FUSE WORKS. What else could it be? The problem right now is, the cd play stays on all the time even w/o the car started, and it plays w/o no keys. Also there is a amp and sub in the car. Right now I just took off the cd face so its’ don’t work but is there a better solution

when did the problem start? after the amp installation?
you can find other switch power line that shuld not be a problem.
if you want me to help you with that pm me.

sounds like you have your accessory wire hooked up to a constant 12v source. Get a multimeter and find a 12v source that turns on with the ignition. Hook your stereos red accessory wire up to that.

firefly_2k3 03-20-2008 10:48 PM

NEED HELP IF IT"S HOOKED UP TO " constant 12v source" what other source can i hook it up to, i think da oringal yellow / red isn't working ?

selective sound 03-21-2008 10:19 AM

It has to be a fuse, double check your fuses in the car and under the hood.

firefly_2k3 03-21-2008 10:50 PM

which fuse? 7.5? i think there all working proper?

Your fuse box (in the glove compartment or under the hood) should have a diagram, I know mine does. See if the radio fuse is blown with a multimeter by seeing if it has continuity.

firefly_2k3 03-23-2008 02:17 AM

whats better to buy a multimeter tester or a fuse tester or both?
going to get one tom = )

torontostreetricer 03-26-2008 02:11 PM

Buy a multimeter...
they are extremely useful...
and you can test fuses with them...
by the sounds of it, you probably do not know how to use one properly...
so i suggest using the instruction manual...

ditto^^^^

ya sounds like dunno what your doing lol. nothing feel dumb about people make these mistakes if they never did it before.

you are supposed to run the one to a constant power and other to a ignition power so it comes on only when you turn the key to power on or running it.

if you dunno how to do it just go to davis and selective sound in sauga, good guy he'll fix you up.

Adli 04-04-2008 01:07 PM

Yeah its definitely hooked up to a constant 12v source,
and you said the acc line (Yellow/red) doesnt work? Liek mentioned above, you have to hook it up to both the accessory line as well as the constant source, so you don't lose your settings.

Did the stock radio work?
Did you try it with the red/yellow? If so, it could be a fuse like mentioned above. probably a 10a fuse.
Hope this helps,

BTW:What kind of car is it?

Pyrex42 04-11-2008 07:07 PM

wait why did u connect 2 wires straight to the battery. yellow wire goes to a 12v constant or battery n the red goes to +acc (ignition).

jimmy_on_20 04-12-2008 10:46 AM

just find a light bulb on a switch in you car, connect to that, when the light is on the radio is on lol...it will work but then you are stuck with lights on while you are driving.
best bet is to tap into something that lights up when car is turned on...dash cluster if you have to...other option is put in a toggle switch so you can turn it on and off as you please and you can keep it connected to the same power source you are currently on.

crazy_like_a_fox 04-12-2008 11:49 AM

go to the ignition loom under the dash and tap into the accessory wire which is yellow. use a multimeter first to test.

I don't suggest this... Do it properly get a wiring diagram for the OEM radio harness and wire straight into the harness. Mine isn't exactly done this way since the guy before me did a half assed job like Quoted above I did some minor rewiring the necessaries. nobody likes car fires or replacing fuses continually because of load issues. loose connections can cause problems in the long run. Do it correctly or not at all.

StealthZ 07-23-2008 05:29 PM

use a fuse tap and tap in to the wiper fuse in the fuse box...done.

N0FEAR 07-28-2008 12:53 PM

Obviously you get the problem like that when you wire the ignition wire straight to the battery smartass. Common sense. The purpose of the ignition wire is its wired to the cars ecu to turn on once the key is turned on in the ignition which then initials the remote wire to turn on the amps. If its connected dirrectly to the battery its going to send power to your headunit it 24/7 until you finnally kill your battery.

agreed... this is why i said to put a on and off switch on your wire as a last resort...of if you just dont want your amp on when you dont wanta use your subs.

kajenius 10-20-2008 11:58 PM

put a switch between the wires lol gheetto.. thats how i run my amp temp solution
alot of cars ciggerette adapter's are turned on when ignition is on have a look at that too..

schwiin_27 01-01-2009 11:16 AM

first off yes it is going to stay on always because u just said u wired the 12v constant and the 12v ign (which is like the acting swith to turn on the deck when the key is in the ign in acc mode.) this could have been avoided if you spent the money on the harness adapter from futureshop or w/e solder a couple wires that are labeled and plug the in !

You are asking for all kinds of noise getting into your audio signal doing this. To the OP obviously you do not have alot of experience doing installs. Not a bad thing, we were all there once. DO NOT DO THIS. There should be a spot in the fuse panel that you can crimp a connector on the end of your power wire and just plug it in. Check on your fuse panel for the radio fuse it is probably blown. Don't just look either they can go and not be seen easily replace it with a new fuse of the same amperage. If that does not work do yourself a favor before you really fry something, Stereo, battery, car, and get somebody that knows what they are doing to hook this up right. I would be more than willing to help if you are around the Brampton area PM me if you want.
Nick
