Need help with Rockford fosgate amp...

I'm shopping for a new amp and I'm asked all these questions by dealers and I don't know the answers.

I have two Rockford Fosgate Series 1 15" subs from like 1992 Isoberic in a professional made box. I have no idea of the wattage of these subs or how many ohms. I just know that they were installed by the owner of a stereo store and this car was his stereo competition car so I know they are top quality for their time.

Any advice or suggestions on amp brand or size or if anyone has a clue as to the specs of these subs?

Thanks Pete

http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/libra...415_815-ts.pdf Try this link out I think this is what you are looking for.

Also you need to find out if they are the 4 or 8 ohm ones. If you have a DMM I can tell you how to find out. Also how are they wired? Do you have 1 or 2 connections for speaker wires? This info will make a huge difference as to what amp will work best with these.

rockford subs...

Hey there,

I do have a DMM so show me the way. There are two sets of speaker wires coming from the box if that helps. Keep me posted as I am dying to know what brand of amp I should buy and how big.

Thanks Pete

Okay set the DMM to ohms and + lead to + wire from box and - lead to - wire from box. Let me know what it says that will be your total ohm load. It will be 1.5 - 2.5 if they are the 4ohm or 3.5 - 4.5 if they are the 8ohm. Also what is the budget for your amp? Let me know this info and we can pick out a good amp for you.

Rockford subs....Amp

Hello there,

Sorry for the delay getting back to you but i have used my DMM on the sub wires and they are 8 ohm subs so what do you recommend for an AMP , I've been told that my subs are 150watts each. My budget is around the $400.00 mark so what do you think?

If you have a couple of recommendations, that would be great.

Thanks, Pete

First I would recommend rewiring the subs. If it shows 8ohm on the 2 wires coming out of the box then you are not really going to get the most out of any amp. Eg, a 2ohm mono amp will only put 1/4 of its power at 8ohms. Let me know if you can make it to Brampton on Saturday and I can help with the rewiring to get the most out of those subs.

Just so I am clear, there are 2 + and 2 - connectors on the box? Each set of + & - show 8oms?

Do you have all the wires you need already? Power, ground, rem on, RCA's etc? Do these need to be factored in to the $400 budget? Any brand names you like or prefer? What is your preferred method of purchase? New in store, online? Used online? I myself prefer new from a store I trust. Just something about getting your gear right away and knowing where to go if there is something wrong with it just seems safer to me. LOL The Rockford Fosgate amp I have now I got from Bestbuy and had a brain fart hooking it up and fried it but good. Don't install amps after partying all night then not sleeping all day then decide after partying half the next night that it is a good time to install an amp. LOL Smelly smoke pouring out of it and they replaced it no questions asked. Doubt I would have got the same buying online, also I didn't have to ship it back and wait for a new one to be sent out. Just my opinion though.
