Pulsing Tach

Tach question. not sure where this should go but its an electrical question. On my dads car he has an Auto Gauge Street Tach and some times it is steady but a lot of times it bounces up and down and pulsates. It works good when he accelerates or revs it then the needle goes up and stuff but when its at idle most of the time it pulsates and when u turn either turn signal on it pulsates with the click of the signal. We figure its mostly just a cheap tach and picks up current from something else, but does ne one know ne way to fix this?
