$2 mod

Guess what I did. The $2 was for rear view mirror adhesive glue (since it's so strong).

Jimmy wins. :)
Took a metal cutting blade on my dremel and cut through the antenna just below the ball, and then cut the antenna in half. Used a grinding stone tip on the dremel to make the ball and the edge of the antenna nice and flat and smooth, then used glue that's meant to bond rear view mirrors to glass -- needless to say the glue works **** good, as I flicked the ball with my finger really hard and all it did was make the antenna wobble back and forth. :lolsign: No reception loss on any of the strong stations, I don't listen to any "weak" stations so I dunno about those... maybe AM station loss, but otherwise an easy mod and IMO a huge (practically free) improvement to the big *** antennas. |
Looks a lot better.

Just shave it lol.

 That might be the next step when the carPC is installed, as I plan to probably just go to sat radio. Didn't Grant do this first? I know someone here did, which is what made me think about doing it today... it was a totally impromptu decision when I got home from my grandmas. Afterwards, I drilled a hole through the clear plastic cover on my gauges so I could shove a paperclip through the hole and push my tach's needle up... now my needle is finally free and works again (it got caught on the aftermarket carbon fiber gauge overlay)

i did xm and love it. i'll take a pic how i have it set up and all. the antenna blends in very very well, everyone is like holy ****. lol, but ya i have the xm skyfi

yea them stock antenna's are huge, on my old firebird my antena didnt go down all the way sometimes when i shut the car off and somone bein an *** put a beer bottle on it and when i started my car up the thing shot up like 5 feet i thought it was gunna fall through my back window.

:lolsign: Well, apparently the glue didn't hold as well as I thought. After posting all this, I had walked out to my car and I flicked the ball just to make sure the glue was still on it well... haha well **** that sucker flew off and went straight in the grass, so my antenna has no ball on top now but it still doesn't matter to me, it looks a lot better than the lightning rod i used to have. :)

a little epoxy will hold (if you find a ball for it) I thought about the sat radio, but 10 bucks a month to listen to teh radio when I drive less than 20 miles total a day just doesn't make sense, if they bundled it with tv like directv or dish I would do it in a hertbeat
