Front clip damage quote ... Is this a good price?

Okay, I've never gotten a body quote for anything so I don't know if this is reasonable. For the shop to purchase a front bumper, paint it, and install it, they want $752. For me to purchase a bumper on my own (ebay) and give it to them, they want $455. Plus the additional 100 bucks it would cost to get a bumper, and we're at $555. This seems extreme, but what do you guys think?

I didn't really ask about if they could patch it up or not, but he said himself I probably should just get a new bumper. Should I ask about patching it up? Mostly its that scratch, and the burn looking blemish with some other little blemishes.

Anyway, here is the worst picture of my car with the front end damage ...

my rear bumper got rear ended and the body shop charged 478 alone to take it off take out the few sctatches and dents repaint and put it on and it had vary minimal damage. Body shops cost alot bro

By the time most places take the time to sand down the bumper and prep for paint its almost as cost effective to buy the new one.

I paid $300 to get mine painted, but it needed some prep work- I think $575 is a little high...

for my front end...new GM bumper and fender, prep, paint, and blending the hood and right fender...all quotes were 1200-1800.

blue89vert 04-08-2006 10:56 PM

do the prep work yourself and pay to get it sprayed

NoRiceInside 04-08-2006 11:57 PM

well i decided to go back to maaco and get it all repainted for about a grand...since im a return customer he gave me a deal :D

but i will do the prep. buy and install the pieces myself i mean.

ill be workin at my uncles shop for a month when im not workin at advance for free soon then i get all my body work and paint done for free :) ill most likely do most of the body work but im leavin him paint it, he worked at a gm dealer for 20 years just doin body work and painting, so i have more trust in him than anyone else around here.

sounds like they are using a new part compared to your used one, a new one will maybe be better (as long as it's gm and not aftermarket which won't fit like gm) the price isn't bad really considering the amount of work, and blending that has to be done, plus white can be a ***** to match since there are about 200 whites out there

Amurican_Muscle 04-09-2006 03:27 AM

I'm pretty sure it was going to be aftermarket ... Do they REALLY not fit as well? I mean, I'm going to sell this car after I get it all done and nice and get my Z28. Yeah, I think I might just go for it ... Maybe check a couple more places first.

archemedes 04-10-2006 01:51 PM

insurance companies don't allow aftermarket ones if that tells you anything

camaro94 04-11-2006 01:21 AM

aren't you going to get a hood and other things for you car? If so, you should wait and have it painted together. Having everything done together will help lower the price some.
