Painting car, recommended paint shops?
 

I need to paint my Honda Civic.

I need something simple and good. I prefer the OEM type paint. Does not have to be from a 95 civic, it could be something newer. As long as it is a good job and the price is not high.
No dents in the car or anything like that, just need a new fresh paint job.

Please recommend anything you have in mind.

ok well IMO your asking for 2 different jobs there. i see your asking for a good job at the same time your looking for a cheap job. hmm.

cant help ya unless you know what you want. best is for you not to just take peoples opinions but on your time off go to different shops and browse around etc.. get quotes and ask to see some stuff they have done and ask what there mthods are too and what products they use.

let them know your shopping around for a job and you just wanna know what your getting yourself into not just a price.

you do have the right to ask them questions and most of them will be willing to help you out and ask questions, the second someone asks you why or starts throwing stuff off the top of there head thats when you walk out.

thats really all i can help with but i know a few shops in hamilton that do awesome work and are perfectionists but are a little pricey, remember you get what you pay for.

also i know it says scarborough in your profile but it always helps to post your location in the post it self for others.

im new to this whole painting the car and what comes with it i was wondering in what price range is it usually to paint a dodge caravan, no dents.

do NOT go 2 unique collision... HORRIBLE, pritty much avoid any shop that is part of atlantic, they are mass production shops, tryin to get cars in and out asap and dont care about the quality, ive taken mine back 7 times and its still not good... i know of a good shop in barrie called L&M auto body... they do a lot of custom jobs,,, its a small shop and i only had a tailgate painted by them but it was a really good quality job... easy to deal with. pm me for more info on the shop i can get u the number

i didnt want to start a whole new topic on paintjobs so i thought i might pipe in over here.

i need a paintjob for a 01 civic. its a 4 door its currently silver. im thinking of making it black or pearl white. Now i know that it costs more to "strip" (i dont know the correct term) the paint and then apply the new coat....or am i wrong?

Either way whats a good place to get a decent paintjob?
what am i looking at in terms of prices?

you dont have to strip the car unless you have a lot of rust to remove.. you need to have it properly preped , primed and then painted in a dust free paint booth and in a dust free drying bay. ..or whatever its called lol

i like gunmetal on civics..dark metallic grey..not honda grey more like gm or lexus.

if theres one thing i can stress to anyone regarding paint and body its try to do as much as you can yourself if you have the time, patience, and balls to (you might be scared youll mess it up depending on mechanical ability). Body shop is all hours and thus tons of money, and i dont nescessarily agree you get what you pay for. Some shops will quote you 5 grand for a repaint, whereas others will quote you 1 and the cheaper one will be just as good as the more expensive one. To put it in perspective, my father had a couple guys quote him about 10 grand for his paint job and body work- went to concepts on wheels and they charged him 4500 which is half what other shops wanted and it turned out great. You need to decide what quality job you want and go from there.

My advice to you is to prep your car yourself....theres lots of great bodyshop forums on the net where guys should be more than willing to help you out- if you take out the prep phase from the bodyshop equation, thats one less thing you have to pay them for, plus the satisfaction knowing you did it. Youll need to buy tools as such as sanding blocks and appropriate sandpaper. Once you have the car prepped properly, spend time looking for a good shop that doesnt cost an arm and a leg...In a case like yours where im assuming there is no rust repair that needs to be done, the cars original paint can be sanded without going to bare metal and then the car can be sealed and then painted..dont know how friendly the import guys are, but at the muscle car cruise ins i regularly attend nobody ever has any problems sharing info of guys they use and have done good jobs on their cars....like the other guys said check out some shops and look at not just the quality of the work they do, but how they work...Is everything messy, do they use the proper tools, are they wearing safety equipment, is the guy showing you around openly about what goes on there or does he try to hide certain things? these may seem silly, but they make a difference in the quality you will expect. dont judge a book by its cover, but when it comes to spending money on a paintjob, it doesnt hurt sometimes to judge from the outside in my opinion- if you dont get a good vibe or are iffy then dont bother

as for recommending shops, i could name a few but it depends how far your willing to travel, what you expect price and quality wise and how soon you actually plan on doing it

There's a small shop in Concord, 191 Bowes Rd Unit 10, near Hwy 7 and Keele. Had almost all my cars painted there. They're honest and reasonably pricy. They also do everything in the automotive business, including sales, importing/exporting cars, performance parts and service, and insurance claims. Best to go and get an estimate from them in persone. Hope that helps. Good luck.

thanks for the reply guys, now heres the thing when i see $4500 im like woah. Thats way out of my budget even though its half the price of what some places charge. Now if thats the case i might as well not paint it and invest the money into some parts. Just curious whats the lowest for a paintjob in this town? distance wont be an issue thanks again

Hey, Everyone Just been out of the forums lately. Ive seen a lot of interest in body and repaint I have owned many shops including Body Shops, I'm in the progress of undergoing some renovations in my new one. I Wanted to know if you guys needed any help with autobody and paint. My shop is not open to public I use it for myself as for I'm a car dealer and reseller, and now I have decided to help you guys that are part of the forums that need of a good deal. I have many resources that I can share with you guys. If you need paint or body work make an appointment with me and let my licenced body man and I take a look and we will estimate whatever you need. We do everything inhouse except I use someone elses spray booth so which the costs are lower, which the saving will be passed along to you. a decent respray shouldnt be much more than 1000 dollars...the 4500 was something for body work and full blown custom paint...but again it all boils down to quality of the paint itself and the quality/labor charge of the shop
