what color to paint? for real this time haha

ok just give me any suggestions as to what you think would look good. I was thinking of maybe painting it kind of like danielle's car, some kind of blue with black ground effects. maybe gray again with black gfx. cant decide. no stripes....me and my friend are doing the paint job and i dont trust either of us to get the measurments right for them. lol. I guess i wont be shaving the door handles either unless i can get it done at his work for a reasonable price but i haven't asked him about it yet. What do you think would also be good for different appearence mods? I was thinking about chrome door handles. same design as stock that i saw at the store last night. not sure though, depends on the color. I am trying to get my hands on an NOS iroc grill also. What do you think of the euro headlights? yay or nay? Also what about the grid style tail lights? Sorry for the long post but I am making plans for after I paint too so i wont have to make more threads and i can just check back here. I dont like red or yellow. give me any other ideas you have! thanks for reading my long *** post lol:eleph:

Stripes aren't so bad to do, we were the ones to lay out the stiripes on Mayhem. Took a few hours, but it wasn't so bad. Blue or gray with black both sound really nice. A nice charcoal metallic or pearl with black would look really nice in my opinion. You could always do the black paint like on my car for a little bit of color.

if you still want that touch of blue in there, go with BMW carbon black paint. It's black but has alittle hint of metallic in it(red, blue purple) and in certain light almost looks like a really really dark navy. These pics don't quit show off the metallic in it, but they are the only ones I have right now.

that looks nice. not sure if i would use it though. how much does it cost for a gallon. I was looking at some duplicolor paint last night from 50 to 70 a gallon. pretty reasonable price if you ask me. What is a good brand of paint, primer, sealer...to use? i need more suggestions on all the other stuff i asked about in the first post too

camaro94 10-24-2006 06:51 PM

I can't recall, but the carbon black was more expensie than the blue, I think it might have been 1.5-2x the cost of the blue. I quit counting the price of paint after a while.

1.5-2x

almost twice the cost... 1 and a half to two times the cost of the blue because of all the stuff that was in it.....

blue89vert 10-24-2006 07:33 PM

oh i see. thanks for all the responses danielle, anybody else care to chime in?

duplicolor makes a decent spray paint, tehy do not make automotive paint. You want cheap paint go with sherwin williams (I won't spray it myself) I like dupont or ppg, they cover better, are a bit thicker so they don't run as easy, and hold up alot better (aka they last on the car for years not months) use the same brand from the bare metal to the clear. A few cents a pint makes a huge difference. As for color go to a paint store, and check the chip books therer are a few thousand different blues, and greys. If doing mettallic do base clear or it will look like a tiger (it's called modling and is a ***** for new painters to control especially if not in a good booth)

blue89vert 10-24-2006 07:59 PM

k thanks arch. my bad, i meant to say dupont, duplicolor was the spray paint primer i was using a while back. what do you mean by base clear?

archemedes 10-24-2006 08:02 PM

one coat color (looks flat) one coat of clear coat (aka 2 stage) dupont is good paint (it's what I sprayed at teh last place I worked and it is what's on my gutlass in the woods and still shining)

blue89vert 10-24-2006 08:03 PM

just 1 coat of each? can i put on more than 1 coat clear coat?

archemedes 10-24-2006 08:05 PM

I use about 3 of each typically (read the label) resist the urge to apply 20 coats of clear it won't shine a bit more than 2 I add trhe 3rd for wet sanding and buffing reasons, color sometimes 2 is plenty (you want coverage without thickness thickness causes cracks)
