Window Tinting Info

This should be a sticky, seems to be a popular question. But here are 2 sites that are recently updated with state by state tint info

Good post.

ryann 06-02-2005 01:29 PM

well, apparently the cops around FL are pretty nice. We just moved down here and got 180 degree black'd out tint, or limo tint however you wanna say it, for the maro. And they still havnt said ne thing.

10secZ-28 07-17-2005 01:21 AM

ya i wanna tint my 95 Z-28, but i live in Livonia, MI and the cops here are ******* gay as hell. I think the law is that you can tint everything except the windshield.

archemedes 07-17-2005 02:34 AM

MI you can't tint side windows but the top couple of inches

graphicsgod 09-26-2005 03:36 AM

I also live in Florida and have had zero problems with cops about my tint (they also have backed off on going five miles over, which is nice, used to get tickets all the time). I have the sides tinted Limo 15% and the brow tinted 30% (I think it's 30%).

I'm actually quite suprised. Some of those laws must be out of date because I always thought LA's tint laws were more strict.

Link not working anymore???

Hello all, I was just curious if anyone else is having troubles with the web link posted originally? I went to take a look at some of the laws and got a "page cannot be displayed" error.....:banghead:

Hmm. Last I checked, you could have your rear window as dark as you like, as long as you have side mirrors. That's what I was told, and why I only got a ticket for my front windows being 10% and not the rear.

Be careful with threads this old Rad, it was originally written in 2005.

Its different with different states. Here in NC, you can have no windows tinted above 35 percent.

I realize that, just thought you guys might want to know. I don't know how it differs from state to state, but that's how the law is supposed to be enforced here in FL.

FORCE_FED_Z 01-18-2008 05:07 PM

There are a lot of people who don't follow the tint laws and think that "its just the cops harrassing them" when they get a ticket. Well its not the cops harrassing them, its doing their job. It is also an officer safety issue. When you walk up to the car, its nice to be able to see in and see what the passengers are doing.

So if you want to tint your windows darker than the legal limit don't bitch when you get a ticket. Same as people who speed- eventually they will get caught, but then they complain they got a ticket for going 15mph over the speed limit. Well what else did you expect???

ITSA6 01-19-2008 12:31 AM

iowa is werid to. you can have like solid black almost on the back. but driver and passenger have to be like 10% or 5%

paarman97maro 01-19-2008 05:20 AM

10 or 5% is still really low light.

Bernotas05 01-19-2008 06:21 AM

Yea 5% is basicly limo tint, there is very low visability into that.

ITSA6 01-19-2008 07:56 AM

okay maybe not that.....maybe it's like 35%

Bernotas05 01-19-2008 08:05 AM

Iowa tint laws....

Windshield -Non-reflective tint is allowed along the top of the windshield above the manufacturer's AS-1 line.
Front Side Windows -Must allow more than 70% of light in.
Back Side Windows -Any darkness can be used.
Rear Window -Any darkness can be used

So basicly you cant have much tint at all on the front sides, 70% is really light.
