from what i have been told and reading on that everything under 3.23 is a 2 series carrier. If you were to upgrade to anything over 3.23 you would need a 3 carrier rear end???? I also though 3.08s were a 3 series carrier.......heh

the way i understand it a 3.08 and lower is 2 serries. a 3.23 and higher is 3 serries. i have a 3.23 rear end and its confirmed i have a 3 serries. thats all i know

paarman97maro 09-08-2005 10:56 PM

hmmm well who is right here?... i just read that i have a series 3 and mine are 3.08s...

does anyone have a **** list or somthing

69z-28 09-08-2005 11:02 PM

WTF? im so confused. well i know they of coarse make the different gears for different carriers such as 3.73's in a 2 serries or 3 serries. the aftermarket doesnt go on how big the gear is, like the factory stuff does. im just assuming these thigns but i was sure 3.08 and lower is 2 serries.

69z-28 09-08-2005 11:02 PM

and why the hell have i been spelling SERIES with two R's this whole time...lol

" A 2-series carrier fits 3.08 and numerically lower gears (3.08, 2.93, 2.73, 2.56, and 2.29). While a 3-series carrier fits 3.23 and numerically higher gears (3.23, 3.42, 3.73, and 4.10). The exception to this is if you purchase custom gears specifically made to fit your specific carrier (i.e. you can buy 3.23, 3.42, 3.73, 4.10, and 4.56 gears to fit the 2-series carrier)."

Yes, that sums it up.

Arch I was told by many that If I got 3.73s gears(3 series carrier ones) with LSD that they would go onto my car is that true.

archemedes 09-09-2005 12:05 AM

you'd have to change the carrier too (to get the limited slip)

Would these work

I sware the whole gear thing gets me confused........I thought the carrier was the differential(sp) So by getting a LSD that would change the carrier?

archemedes 09-09-2005 12:00 PM

that would work, a differential is also the carrier (it's what the gears bolt to)

Adam we shoulda just traded gear sets i got motives for a 2 series needed em for a 3 I think?? all this **** confuses meee

97z2801ss 10-11-2005 07:05 PM

What will it fit then or are u guessing everytime u put em on?

1BADVETTE 10-11-2005 08:17 PM

Nope, your not guessing at all, you simply look at your door and look for the code. If it's less that 3.23(I think that's right, arch?), your a 2-series carrier, if your above, your a 3 series carrier. And the gears are sold by the way heh!

69z-28 10-11-2005 10:34 PM

3.23 and up are 3 series.
