3rd gear

Ok i know i might be one of the only ones in here that havnt already done the short shifter. But got a question on it When i get on it and am racing or just getting on it to get on it i have trouble hiting 3rd gear right. Will a short shifter help with that. I plan on getting one when i do the rest of my car up here in about 2 months but figured id ask. Its agrivating when i can hit all the other gears fast but if i try going into 3rd fast i miss it.

Thanks

what do you mean miss it? like it wont push in gear easilly, or you slip into 1st or 5th?

it doesnt go into anther gear it just doesnt go into gear like it sticks i dont know. Normal driving never have a problem just when i go to shift fast it stops and doesnt go into 3rd sometimes i dont know if its just me or what.

Yeah, a short stick is self-centering so it will help your 2-3 shift..not to mention the fact that the shift is a lot shorter which means a quicker shift.

cool thats what i thought thanks for the input

yep most shifters you see for sale advertise a fix to the 3rd gear miss. i dont have a problem getting into 3rd so much, for me its 4th. i have to either double clutch or slam the shifter into 4th. i think i have weak hydraulics in my clutch system...

i ordered a short stick from ebay last night and i noticed that its straight, whereas the stock has a nice curve in it as if its supposed to clear something. well i took a closer look, its so the stick clears the console in 4th gear. will this stick hit the console in 4th? all aftermarket sticks have a straight design so im assuming it will be okay?

since you dont have a different shifter i have a feelign you might hit it cause its not making the shifts shorter just the throw(if that makes sense) you might be ok but i would get an aftermarket shifter Caleb, its not even night and day its like summer/winter.haha

haha. yeah personally i cant think of how it can change since the shift is actually guided inside the trans and the shifter has nothing to do with it. but i'll listen to your wisdom...

It shortens the length of stick above the pivot point- and I believe it raises the pivot point slightly as well to help shorten the shift a little more as well.

I wouldn't just get a shorter stick, esp. if you like the jam thru the gears. The factory shifter doesn't have stops and you are pushing the stick as far as the transmission will let it. Aftermarket shifters have stops in them so you don't overshift when trying to row thru the gears. If all you wanted was a shorter stick, why didn't you just cut it and reweld it?? Its a lot cheaper than buying a stick..

i have the same problem when im trying to shift...i can shift 1nd and 2nd easily but soon as i try to go to 3rd i usually end up moving the shifter in between 1st and 3rd ..its definately a pain.I have the b&m short shifter and when i shift it doesnt hit the console.
