4th gen oil pan

welp my pan is leaking. i plan on taking it on sunday. i read a few things. my haynes manual only describes doing it on an automatic, so i dont know if i have to drop my trans. alldata says for a manual trans you do have to drop it.

so my question is does the transmission need to be removed for removing the oil pan?

i wouldn't think so... maybe support the tailshaft with a jack stand and unbolt the x member?? just a guess

no not at all. there's no need to remove the tranny to do that at all. but first, are you sure its your oil pan seal thats leaking? remember, $hit flows down hill. wash your engine up good then drive 10 miles. come back and check it out. it might be from up above (seen it many times)

just what i do to find leaks on junk. hope it helps and good luck

ive removed LT1-t56 trans about 3 or 4 times and am not sure about it, its not very simple under there, there is a special block that holds the rear main seal that is bolted to the pan. its very suphistimacated. but yea i think it just falls apart when you wish hard enough.

x member = crossmember matt

oh my god dude. dont ever question me again. ever.

i have been doing research on cz28.com, ls1tech.com, etc...it seems i may just be leaving the engine where it is. IMO, its easier to drop the k member. just get the car high, yank the struts, lower ball joints and swap bay, 6 bolts to drop the k member and bam. complete, unobstructed access to the oil pan.

I almost hope it is leaking from somewhere else.. just so you feel like a dick for being so arrogant.

lol. that would be pretty funny actually. although he did just change the intake gaskets. maybe theyre installed wrong Caleb? lol jk.

NoRiceInside 08-17-2006 03:35 PM

the intake is leaking. from the back. its the legendary EGR LT1 oil leak. but thats not what this is. you guys take me for a moron. i work on cars all day 6 days a week, i think i know how to diagnose an oil leak.

dont be a douche

ok so asking for advice on removing an oil pan is asking for advice on finding an oil leak? those are two different things. take a look under a 4th gen and you'll know.

Yeah.. Well if you didnt act like you built the entire camaro by hand and knew every nut and bolt you wouldnt get such ***-hole feedback. Dont act like you know everything then turn around and be a hypocrite.

Sorry, Ive been drinking /jefkoff.

NoRiceInside 08-19-2006 01:56 AM

well with the past couple f bodies ive had...i think its safe to say i DO know every bolt. ive dug into the rear end...completely rebuilt it, tore a T56 out 3 times and tore it apart twice, then tore the top end out of the first one, and am dipping into the very bottom of one sunday...

and what was hypocritical? i didnt ask for help on diagnosing an oil leak. i asked if anyone had any good tricks to getting the pan off.

its okay though i found the answer on cz28. im gettin my technical info from there from now on.
