The simplest thing could throw your speedo off (wheels, tires etc.) I went through one of them things that you drive past and it shows how fast you are goin the speed limit was 35 i looked down at the speedo on my bronco and it said 45, went though that thing and it said 30.

a factory speedo is only required to be accurate within 5mph at 55mph anything over or under that it can be off by a bunch (my dad's dakota at 70 was off by 12 mph but at 55 was only 3 mph off at least that's what the MI state troopers radar gun says)
