AIR/EGR delete

I was wondering what all does deleting the AIR and EGR do for my car and what all does it consist of doing. what all do i need to buy, i just bought emissions friendly headers too.:( thanks. i have a 94 LT1

if you have emissions friendly headers then install them and keep the AIR and EGR. there is no need to remove them. the only reason people do so it to clean up the engine bay.

if you do chose to go that route...

to remove the AIR you need to find a bolt that is the same size and thread as the AIR tube that threads into the manifolds or headers. buy two of them and block off that inlet. then unbolt the smog pump and remove all tubing and electrical connectors.

for EGR you need to buy the EGR block off plates. there are three, one for the exhaust manifold and two for the back of the intake manifold.

if you buy off road headers it will be much easier to delete all of this.

Another thing it will do is trip your SES light if you dont get a tune to disable it. So unless you are looking to clean up your engine bay- I'm not sure if I would do it, esp if you live somewhere that requires emissions.

Another added benefit that Caleb forgot to mention is that it makes workin on the car easier since there are less things in the way and less to take off should you need to do any work.

Yea i wouldnt mess with it, unless you were hell bent on getting rid of it.

considering it doesn't gain anything hp wise, it's not worth the hassle

To me it is, as it makes gettin to my rockers a lot easier now, and messing with the headers.

archemedes 04-27-2006 01:39 PM

yeah but how often is your engine apart compared to the average person?

NoRiceInside 04-27-2006 02:08 PM

hey joe since you need to adjust your rockers a lot have you though about relocation your alternator as that makes it easier to get to the passenger valve cover?

ive thought about it to clean it up, but it looks dumb with the setup i've seen.

Whats that supposed to mean???:p Just because its apart doesn't mean its broken...

And Caleb- yes I have thought about it, but the ones I have seen elim. the power steering as well, I'm not ready to give that up yet. About the only way I have thought is get a different power steering pump that flows the other way and I could fab up the bracket, but thats about it from what I have figured so far..

NoRiceInside 04-27-2006 08:05 PM

well ive seen one somewhere...it retains the factory bracket, but it comes with a plain generic bracket that connects the two bolt holes at the top of the alternator spot. it looks goofy, lemme see if i can find it.

well i have done both mods and it does clean up the egninge bay alot and make is easier to work on esp if u are putting on wires removing the water pump or harmonic bal or opti because u now dont have to remove the air pump and bracket. also if u do the mod and u have a cai u must get a cap to plug off the air feed as well as a cap on the intake manifold for a line that runs to the egr. also removing the egr is suppose to keep the intake manifold cleaner because exhaust gas is not recirculating through it, like previously stated u must get a tune or have a programmer to turn off the ses codes, good luck

Lets say you did do the AIR/EGR delete. How much work would it be to re-install them?

imported_2fast4u 05-02-2006 07:32 PM

u would ahve to bolt up the air bracket and pump and hook up the egr solenoid, egr pump and egr lines and air lines if you are mechanically inclined maybe 45 mins - 1 hour
