Almost finished...need help

As most of you know I am in the middle of a header install. I have the headers mocked up and ready to go, I just need the torque specs for them. I think I lost the instructions, so I am not sure what they are and I don't want to screw anything up. Any info would be greatly appreciated...thanks.

tighten them till their tight....you dont need any torque specs. I always just go till i hear them click or you feel the bolt bend. (ive boken so many off getting good at it)

That's normally how I do it, but I have already broken so many bolts during this install it's not even funny. Five of the six bolts on the stock manifolds broke in half when I was taking them off. I just don't want to take any chances this time around and I just want it done PERFECTLY. That way I will not have to go back and fix anything later.

Just remember after you tighten them the first time, I know after like 50 miles or so you have to retighten them again. Im not sure on the torque... I dont know if its the same as my car, but I dont have my install sheet here :banghead: its at home... I wish I could help you out.

i got some generic header bolts from Autozone since Speed INC screwed me and gave me LS1 bolts, so i needed something quick. put them in, tightened them as much as i could with as much room as there was and then just yesterday checked them all and they were all still pretty tight, but like paar said keep checkin them and youll be fine.

I recommend getting the longest header bolts you can. The aluminum heads will strip easily. When I bought my BBK headers the bolts werent' very long at all and I ended up stripping the threads in the head.

Just go buy some header bolts for a SBC at the 'Zone and you will be glad you did. Also, I would throw in a set of alum. header gaskets if aren't already..

Would you suggest the same thing for a set of Pacesetter headers for my car? Just wondering if I should be more prepared than I think I am.

when i put my bbk's on i use the supplied bolts and started with the center bolts
then work out doing it hand tight.then use a wrench and tighten them as hard as u can ....and then for the first couple of days u should check the bolts cause
some may work themselves loose....i wish i would have known that then:banghead:

If you tighten them as tight as you can you are more likely to strip them out..esp with the short bolts they supply to you. I would say somewhere around 30 ft lbs should be tight enough. But like rice said you are going to keep an eye on them as they are likely to back out. I try and make it a habit to check mine every couple of weeks to make sure they are still tight.

If you use the alum gaskets you won't have to tighten down quite as much to get a seal..not to mention the gaskets they give you are junk.

I already have Stainless Breslin locking header bolts. I just needed to know the proper torgue specs. I got it taken care of though. Thanks guys
