Any Clutch Recommendations? ... Need some help

So as most of you know, my drivetrain is a little ****** up. I know the clutch is dead, but not sure if I need to get the whole tranny rebuilt or what. Well, I'm gonna start with replacing the clutch.

The clutch in it now is the Dual Centerforce clutch... the 500-600 awesome clutch. Thats waaaaaaay to expensive for me right now... I don't know to trust the ebay clutches or not but here are 2 that I stumbled upon (the first one LOOKS real good.. but i dont know if i should trust it):

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Camar...spagenameZWDVW

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/F1-RA...spagenameZWDVW

If I shouldn't trust them should I just stick with a Spec Stage 1 clutch for more money but claims less performance than the ebay ones.

Any opinions or advice will help...

p.s. I don't plan on any huge performance mods in the near future. Just small bolt-ons.

Thanks guys

from everything i hear...... Do NOT go with centerforce. the weights on those things and all the ******** engineering behind them is fugged up and not a good choice for cars like ours. ive heard this from tons of different people as well as a friction specialist company that custom made my dad's camaro clutch.

Spec is either hit or miss. people love it or hate it. so i opted to stay clear.

in my honest oppinion besides the McCleod twin disc which can be had for a large guap, the BEST choice is something from Ram for an LT1. LSx has lots of different options that are better suited for it like textralia and what not but for our cars, i have never heard one bad thing about Ram. i found out after i sold my wrecked camaro that it actually had a Ram HDX clutch (i thought i just loved the stocker, hehe) but it was for a stock car. for my T/A tho which has more stuff done, i opted for the Ram Powergrip. it was 500 new, prolly a little cheaper now, but its supposedly good for 500 horse and i LOVE it. no problems at all, smooth engagement for the most part and the car bogs down when i hit 2nd cause the engine couldnt move the 315 nittos, so i know this thing holds what i put through it. if you need a little more clutch, the next option is the Powergrip HD, or the custom VDX they offer for $$$. IMO i would go with the standard Ram powergrip that i have in my car. i got mine for 499 from Summit.

Sounds like a good clutch... I think I'm going to look into that more.

I guess no one has dared to buy an ebay clutch yet eh? :p ... maybe i shouldn't either. I am really short on cash though... I could get that Powergrip then not eat for 2 months.... :nana:

:lolsign: i'll make sure not to get one there. haha... Yeah, I really wanna try the ebay one cuz its 230 shipped and claims it holds 500 some HP... but i would be pissed if it was crappy. I dunno...

search on Camaroz28 about those gripforce clutches. i too was gonna get one before the Ram, but then decided against it. i cant remember if i heard it was crappy or maybe everyone warned me "you get what you pay for" so i forked over the extra cheddar for the Ram.

and yes ive heard from many people, do NOT buy an autozone clutch.lol

Ram... end of discussion...lol

i know i have an ls car, but im on my 2nd ram clutch, i bought another one after i drove the living piss out of the other one(50+ track passes all 3500 rpm slips and 13xxx miles not one of which were easy), it was still holding pretty good when i changed it out to. My vote is for a ram powergrip

Amurican_Muscle 05-31-2007 06:30 PM

Cool... Thanks guys. Now wheres the best place to buy a Powergrip? Thunder Racing is the cheapest I've seen: http://thunderracing.com/catalog/?ac...&vid=4&pcid=72

I think I'm either gonna do the powergrip, or blaze a new trail and try the Maddog clutch. I actually found good stuff about it on camaroz28... And its 200 bucks cheaper... I know you get what you pay for... but I'm also broke. :p

Sinister95Z 05-31-2007 08:51 PM

Keep us informed. I am curious about this clutch even though I also have the Ram Powergrip.

Ws6GoFast 06-01-2007 01:15 AM

i think i got mine from texas-speed.com
