Better Clear Corners?

I'm trying to find the best set of "Standard Clear Corners" I can find. The first set I bought were the Euro Crystal Clears, and I am not looking for another set of those.

I've realized by looking up close at a lot of the newer cars, the super bright amber lights that you see, are due to the way the grooves are cut in the plastic, directly in front of the bulb.

The current clears I have I bought from "symmic" on ebay for like $16.99 + S&H, but to me,.....all the "Standard Clear" lenses look the same. I know they can't be because I've seen many that are brighter than mine. I even put a higher wattage bulb in them (4157NA) without getting the results I was looking for, so I know it's the lenses that reflect the light differently.

The 2000 Buick Century my oldman drives, has the same wattage amber bulbs in it as mine do, but the way his lense is cut directly in front of the bulb, reflects the light twice as bright as mine do.

I know RKSport has 'em for $59.00 + S&H, and as the saying goes: "you usually get what you pay for". IDK, to me they look exactly like the ones I already have,.....but why would they sell the same product for like $45.00 more if they weren't better?

I wish I knew why I was so obsessed about this. I guess it's because of how much I like seeing the C5 Vettes coming from about a mile away with their bright-A$$ posers on. That's how I want mine to look.

Anyone have an opinion on this? I know I'm probably one of the few who want the brightest amber running lights I can get, but that's just the way I like 'em.

If it were possible to incorporate the C5 running lights in my car, I'd definitely do it. If it weren't for the fact I hate the amber lenses, I'd throw those back in with a 4157 clear bulb. It would be brighter while they were on, but then I'd be stuck with looking at the amber lense all time it was off.

HMMMMMMM.....

My buddy has them off ebay. His are super bright. I don't know the name of them but I know it has a crapload of mirror in it. The front of the corners has a crossed pattern in it and the side of it is like glass, clear. I'll find out what seller he got them from and let you know.

NoRiceInside 04-28-2006 11:08 PM

dude, rksport sucks. you dont get what you pay for with rksport.

i bought two clears from symmic. my Z and my TA. both are the crystal clears. i think what youre looking for is the diamond clear corners. they are straight up clear. no weird cuts in front. absolutely clear lense.

and ive been going back and forth with clear and amber bulbs since i got my clears. mine has DRLs so they look super mean and bright. i first had clear, it looked good, but somethin about bright amber is nice. so i switched to amber bulbs, but since you can see it through the lense i didnt like it. so then i bought some of the chrome amber bulbs on ebay. they suck. you'd think the chrome blocks light, well...it does. lol.

so now im back to my clear cuz, well, i dont know why. i think only because it matches better with my headlights and fog lights.

About the RKSport lenses, I just can't see paying $68.00 for a set of lenses that look exactly like the ones I already have in my car.

About the crystal clear lenses,.......those were the first set I bought through symmic, and I tried 3 different sets of amber bulbs in them but never got that brightness I'm talking about. I'll have to take some pictures of what I'm talking about tomorrow. I'll take a close up of the lenses in my oldman's car for an example.

The brightest amber lights out there on the road right now are in some of the newer vehicles that have clear lenses with very rigid, bezeled, curved cuts in the plastic directly in front of the bulb. The chrome caseing inside the lense doesn't reflect near as much as the cut of the lense in front of the bulb.

I've gone as far as to flip a u-turn when I see a car with Super Bright running lights, just to get in front of them to look at their lenses, and the more bezeled it's cut, the brighter it is. I seen a black 98+ SS today with clear corners that were pretty bright, so I know I just need to find out which ones they are before buying a third set and hoping they're the right ones. :)

NoRiceInside 04-29-2006 03:15 AM

well the rksport ones are exactly the ones symmic sells.

and you need diamond clear corners. those are the ones the 98+ camaro had. its not the cut of the bezel or whatever youre talking about, its the fact that its absolutely clear and there is no obstruction.

First of all, that 98+ black SS camaro belongs to a guy that works at Big Wheel Auto Parts, and they're not the kind with the clear faced lenses. They look exactly like mine (and Chad's) almost white looking when they're off, but they reflect almost twice as bright as mine. I asked him where he got them but he said they were already on the car.

Second, I'm 100% positive that there is "NO" crystal clear face lenses out there that could even come close to how bright the bezeled or grooved cut lenses are during the day. ;) Here's an example.....look at the picture of my taillight in my signature. As you can see, the whole lense is bezeled or grooved to make the lights brighter.

That "obstruction" is exactly what makes the reflection so bright. The next time you're out driving around, look for the brightest amber lights you can find.......I guarantee you they will have the bezeled glass (or plastic) directly in front of the bulb. :)

I've only been up close to about 30 cars in the last 2 days looking at how the lenses are made, and it's because I've been asking myself; "What is it that makes these running lights so friggin bright?" Well, the one and only thing they all have in common is the fact that they all have that same bezeled cut right in front of the bulb.

I'm gonna go outside and take some pictures of what I'm referring to so that you can see what I'm talking about, so look at the next thread.

Thanks buddy, I appreciate it. :)

Ok then, I went outside and took a few pictures of a 2000 Buick Century that has super bright amber running lights. As you'll see in these pictures, it's the grooves cut in the lenses directly in front of the bulbs. I took some angle shots to campare the difference, but keep in mind these are night time photos. I'll take some more after I wake up.

The last 4 pictures are of my clear corners, and these are the same style I want, but not so cheap. The second to last one is what's current during the day, and the very last picture shows my first set, "The Crystal Clears" and I definitely do not want these again. I don't like 'em! As you'll see it's darker than the current ones I have. (which aren't very bright either)

Oh yeah, I know Scott! I haven't talked with him for a few months, but I sure miss his humor....:( I always loved to hassle me about the low mileage on my car. :D

Anyway, I need to understand something. Are the "Diamond Clears" the ones that have the Crystal Clear Glass in the front, cause that's what his look like in the picture?

I added a few more pictures of the Buick which shows how bright they are even during the day. You'll notice that when I take the picture at an angle, the bulb itself isn't near as bright as when the bezeled glass is in front of it. The last picture shows how big the grooves are in the lense, which is never gonna happen with our's because of how small they are. If there were lenses that had larger grooves cut in them, they'd be as bright as these.

NoRiceInside 04-29-2006 03:56 PM

k crystal clears are like what i have. they have the bezeled front cut. diamond clears have nothing, just clear glass.

Jpack 04-29-2006 04:04 PM

These are exactly like Scott's. His seller doesn't have any listed right now. But these are the ones he has. Also, when you get bulbs, have you tried the ones for a C5 vette?

Str8upChevy 04-29-2006 04:30 PM

He-He-Heeeee,.....Yeah I was actually the one who started that thread over there about running the 4157NA bulbs just like the C5 Vettes do. I think it was Spyderking69 that started telling everybody else about them, cause he also put them in his clear corners and just loved them.

The only thing about those are, unless you have good Corner Lenses to begin with, the difference isn't enough to notice. I actually put those bulbs in my Crystal Clears (first set) before getting rid of them, and it still didn't give me what I wanted.

I really do appreciate you doing this research for me bud, but unfortunately Scott has the Crystal clears, which are the ones I don't care for. I'm actually looking for kind that are just like the ones I have in my car right now, except I need to find the better quality ones. ;)

Jpack 04-29-2006 04:37 PM

Did you look at the ones I posted in the link???

I sure did Jim, but they're just like Scott's. They have the crystal clear front glass with the mirror'd chrome backing behind the bulbs. Those are the same style as the first set I went through. They're actually super bright when it's dark out, but during the day they don't have that brightness I'm looking for.

That's why I posted all the pictures of the 2000 Buick Century. It shows how having that bezeled glass in front of the bulb makes them even brighter. I'll bet you I could probably order any one of the other kind I'm talking about from ebay, and they'd be the right ones. But this "symmic" seller I got them from, both sets I've bought from them have been loose in the mounting area, and not very good reflection from the lenses.

IDK......I'm just tired of buying them and not being what I see in other guy's cars. I just haven't been able to find anyone that can tell me where they got theirs. :banghead:
