Like I said it wasn't a good video and that I would get a new video up as soon as we have a nice day here.

How is the seat of the pants feel? I bet your loving it.
Have to let me know how its effected your mpg and driving habits.

108Dragon 12-09-2007 03:42 PM

I'd still like to know which cam he went with and why. lol Personally, I'm leaning toward a Comp Cams Extreme 224/230 and a set of those Trick Flow heads.

FORCE_FED_Z 12-10-2007 07:20 PM

It was a custom ground cam and he's not saying what the specs are. Chad did many hours of research and hours on the phone to get what he wanted. I don't blame him for not wanting to let the cat out of the bag. I would never recommend going with an off-shelf cam unless you want an off-shelf car just like everyone else. Anyone car flip thru a summit catalog and pick parts.

108Dragon 12-10-2007 10:53 PM

What's up with you, dude? It ain't like he or you designed the LS engine. I would even bet neither of you goes by Ron Sperry or Tom Stephens in the real world. I seriously doubt you, Chad, or even the guy who ground his cam are going to reinvent the "LS" wheel with this cam. I can live with not knowing Chad's cam grind. It's not like as soon as I learned what he was using I'd run out and get one. His setup is entirely different than mine, so that would be stupid.
I shoot three gun, and 1000 yard matches. While everyone else is going to wildcat and specialized Magnum rounds, I have stayed with the tried and true 168 Sierra .308. I know what it is going to do at ANY distance, crosswind, and ambient temperature. Just like over the years, I've started with the Comp Cams 268 grind with every engine I've built up until the Extreme dual pattern series came out. It is not only a good place to start, I KNOW what its going to do in any engine I put it in.
It was an honest question.

FORCE_FED_Z 12-11-2007 06:22 PM

It was an honest answer- people have asked before and he said he wasn't going to tell last I knew. I never said it was a magical cam that made his motor produce insane power. I do know that both of us, and many others here have spent many hours trying to figure out what we wanted, what we were going for, and what it would take to get there.

Neither Chad or I have ever claimed to be engine 'experts' and on the forefront of design technology. Both of us just enjoy having something different from everyone else. If you think that comes across as arogant and cocky well then thats your opinion. Its not like that at all.... keep digging up some more old threads and I'm sure you'll see that.

108Dragon 12-11-2007 10:50 PM

hahaha "arrogant" and "cocky"? Well.. I didn't say that. But now that you mention it, (considering what has transpired here) it AIN'T opinion. You DON'T have anything that noone else has, or CAN'T have for that matter. It's like the Harley build off game, or the Street Rod crowd. You are all just variations on a theme. You have a Camaro that you will eventually either grenade for being pushed to hard or eventually rust to dust. The point here is comradery.
What bugs me the most I guess is the fact that you seem to be under the opinion that Chad can't speak for himself. If he feels that he can't say what cam grind he is using or why, then HE can tell me as much. Your 585 horsepower is ONLY a function of the amount of MONEY you spent. And, sorry bro, I AIN'T impressed.
Point? I'm not here to steal anyone's "secrets" or grind anyone's nerves. I'm here to share my 40 years of experience and learn what I can from those who WILL share. I wouldn't mind rollin with a few of you guys next summer either.
What I drive isn't what sets me apart from everyone else. Who I AM is. Otherwise, I'd just be another shmuck with a 500+ hp Camaro.

FORCE_FED_Z 12-11-2007 11:44 PM

Well I thought I was doing pretty good since it was stock short block, stock ported heads and only 7 lbs of boost but what do I know, I don't have 40 yrs experience...

ps- I never said Chad couldn't speak for himself- I was just getting you the answer sooner is all. I will tell anyone just about anything they will want to know, and so will anyone else here. Didn't think it was that big of a deal if we wanted to keep our cams a secret.

69z-28 12-12-2007 12:04 AM

cam specs are cam specs. ive asked chad before multiple times in person and he wont tell.haha. most people who have a custom grind cam wont tell you because hey.... they did the work to get what they wanted like Joe said. people asked me what my custom cam was, i told them because frankly i dont give a crap. was it custom... ya, was it anything special... no. its personal choice and preferance and you'd be suprised how many people dont actually tell anyone their cam specs aside from their tuner.

dont need to get on anyones case here. Joe's done some crazy **** with that car so don't doubt him. i doubt the work he has into it could even translate to an amount of money. and like he said, he was giving you the answer you asked for just sooner. like you said, it's comradery so dont rag on others.

Chad prolly WONT tell you the specs, as many others wont either, if you didnt wanna hear that from me or joe, shoulda PMed Chad about it.

a lot of people will tell you their cams are 23x, 24x, so do your homework and you can learn a lot by just taking a look at different things, calling companies and finding out a wealth of information by just doing research. you should know this if you got 40 years experience.

if you want cam help, best bet is not diggin up an old thread, make a new one with your personal info and people will most deffinitley chime in to help.

Lets keep the arguments down to a minimum fellas, remember, we're here to learn from each other :)
