dexcool is orange, if anything but dexcool was added it's bad, it becomes very thick and rusty looking, noone has had any luck getting the garbage out afterwards either. Also it could be just rust since you have abused it (even dexcool needs to be changed more often than they say, no less than once every other year, I prefer a minimum of once a year)

PHDcamaro 10-25-2005 08:08 PM

i dont use dexcool... i use green ****

archemedes 10-25-2005 08:10 PM

did you flush it first? isn't '95 the first year of the dexcool? If using green it needs to be changed 2 times a year really no less than once a year

PHDcamaro 10-25-2005 08:14 PM

maybe in the 95 3.8 cali camaro........... i got a 3.4

archemedes 10-25-2005 09:23 PM

still green breaks down quick, you are lucky the head gaskets are ok, basically it's the same as never changing the oil

McGruff 10-25-2005 09:45 PM

i don't think you can run anything but dexcool in a dexcool system - even if you flush it. I think 3.4's ran off of the regular crap - in which case it's probably time to flush the coolant system.

A good way to check if its non-dexcool in a dexcool system is, take off the water pump and look for rust. If that's the case, you need a new engine.

NoRiceInside 10-26-2005 01:26 AM

yeah 3.4s used regular and so did OBDI LT1s. i'd recommend switching to regular green. dexcool is involved with a class action lawsuit with GM cuz it sucks.

97z2801ss 10-26-2005 10:53 AM

yep, but all new gms have dex, if u mix dex and reg green ****, your gonna have a weird colored gooeyish coolant either way change that **** dave1

the classaction suit is losing already since it was found the people with issues didn't read the directions, if you don't add green, or ignore a leak there is no issue

My coolant was the same nasty brown and when I changed my water pump I basically had to replace my coolant anyway. Now my coolant is brown with a green tint. I'm thinking of running some cleaner and some flush through the system to see if that helps.

chriskaz 10-27-2005 02:00 AM

brown coolant can be cause from nething from a blown head gasket to air in the system, id flush it out, and make sure you do the heater seperate too or else that $hit just get thrown in with the good stuff. Run it with the cap open till the thermostat opens and see what happens from there

PHDcamaro 10-29-2005 08:03 PM

i replaced my water pump and t-stat 2 years ago... no rust in there.... i think its just rust in the radiator..... since my car has only ran for 3 weeks in the past year and a half, makes more sense............... car never ran hot, oil never burned or leaked, never blew smoke outta the pipes....... imma just replace the radiator.....

thanx everyone

archemedes 10-29-2005 08:51 PM

if it's in the rad it's in the whole system, your rad is aluminum, it doesn't rust, that is probably from the engine from being abused (you neglet maintenance) let water sit in a metal bucket for 2 years and see how the bucket looks, after a year the green coolant is basically colored water. Flush the system real well and change the coolant every 6 months or stop driving

PHDcamaro 10-29-2005 09:01 PM

i didnt beat on it.. the couple before me beat on it................... is there anythingi can use to clean the system out?????
