Caliper Bolts

Any LT1 guys have a problem with the rear caliper bolts coming out? It causes a big problem. Last week my bottom caliper bolt came out so when I back up and hit the brakes the rotor pulls the caliper back. It but two scratches in the inside of the rim. Today it happened on the other side but it was the top caliper bolt, which meant when I go foward and hit the brakes the rotor pulls the caliper foward and this time it had to happen while going 70 miler per ******* hour!

After the flatbed got my car home I put a new bolt in and now it's good, but my guess is that since I bought used brakes the caliper bolts were old and maybe the threads were stretched out? Does anyone know if the bolts used in the rear LT1 calipers are torque to yield bolts, meaning they'ye only usable once? If time has caused these bolts to be bad then that explains why one of my backing plate bolts also did the same thing...

might be a good idea to use some locktite on them, check the dealer see if they get a warning with rear pads (usually puts a warning saying bolts must be replaced too)

i thought about lock tight, but a few guys have told me not to use that on brakes.

if you look at them they have a blue locktite from the factory (never use red it's for permanent stuff)

NoRiceInside 11-24-2004 10:32 PM

ok so is the bottle blue or the actual stuff?

archemedes 11-24-2004 10:35 PM

the actual stuff, the threads should still have some on them

no i got them with the used disk brakes. thats what i figure the problem is. theyre old bolts so the threads might have been stretched.

archemedes 11-24-2004 11:09 PM

it's possible

I would just get some new ones and get a little locktite- should be fine after that...
