car wont start

It started to snow sunday afternoon so I ran outside and put my car cover on.

Monday night the snow was melted and I got into the car ready to go to work.

I turn the key and it sounds like its about to start but then it just doesn't and keeps making the (trying to start up noise).

I talked to a guy at work and he told me it was probably the battery or the fuel pump.

I tried to jump the battery today and the car still wouldnt start. Could it be the fuel pump like my friend said he thought, or what else could it be?

Thanks for the help.

could be the battery is frozen, could be fuel pump, could be pcm, could be ignition, could be...... (you get the point?) check for spark, and fuel. If the battery is frozen it won't jump start, and they are susceptable(sp) to wind chill. To check for gas push teh little vlave on the uel rail, if gas comes out, you have gas at the injectors (if the pump was bad that gas would get used up quickly)

I waited until the afternoon today to try and jump it.

It was cold and wet outside but not cold enough to freeze anything.

I'll try to get a video of the engine bay while I try to start the car tomorrow.

I'm assumin the motor is turning over?

Everything Arch said are good places to start.

What are some more of the symtoms- kinda almost sounds like opti symtoms...

I believe the motor does turn over.

Imagine your classic horror movie, car not starting :)

I'm still trying to get a video of it to post but havn't had the chance yet.

You 'believe' the motor turns over? hmm, this might be more serious than I thought...

Here is a sound clip:

This is me trying to turn the key to start the car, and then I just turn it back. Last 7 seconds of clip is nothing, I recorded the clip w my laptop and was the best I could do.

Well, yes the motor is turning over, it sounds as though it is trying to start.

Try this- disconnect the battery and let it sit for a while-(a couple hours) This should clear the computer if it has codes for the opti being bad. When you connect the battery try and start it up. If it gives you a little chug then just a crank,(what you have now) I would almost lean towards opti.

To check your fuel pump, just listen for it when you turn the key on, you should be able to hear it pump for a couple seconds. If you can't, have a buddy turn the key on while you are under the rear of the car. If you still can't hear it, I would either the pump failed, or the relay has troubles.

One other fairly quick check would be to take out a plug. If its dry, you aren't gettin fuel. If its soaked, more than likely you aren't gettin spark. (LT1's are more known for spark issues than fuel delivery issues...)

There are many many things it could be. Just have to start elimnating them one by one...

Nah i dont think it would be that sounds good from what i heard. id do what arch said check the fuel sytem, this time of year the fuel lines.... iso-heat is a great product to keep that from happening

archemedes 12-22-2005 11:46 PM

that sounds like the gp did when teh module went bad (the pcm was bad too) it's either no spark or no fuel, it's turning over fine.I too am leaning towards a no spark condition rather than no fuel

same thing my car was doing and it ended up being the fuel pump but i have heard more about opti problems then fuel

kizzle 12-26-2005 02:00 AM

We ended up lightly hitting under the car where the gas tank should be with a rubber hammer. (my old mechanic suggested it)

After that the car ALMOST started. Then I pressed the gas to the floor and tried to start the car again, walaah! Back in action.

I assume the fuel filter or something was just clogged? Any ideas?

97' Z28 show project 12-26-2005 04:17 AM

wonder if that would of worked for me instead of having to buy a new fuel pump lol

archemedes 12-26-2005 10:40 PM

could have been clogged (you do change it every other oil change right?) could be the pump was stuck (might want to start saving just in case)
