changing rear main seal
 

i have a pretty good leak from my car and i beleive its the rear main. hos hard is it to change it? i havent really taken a look under the car yet except to look where its leaking from so i dont have any ideas bout how it would have to be done yet. any help is appreciated. thanks

my dad did it on his f150 its just a couple hours laying on your back dripping in oil

i dont have an f150. im wondering if there are any crossmembers or crap in the way. basic pointers or keys to doign this?

there's some crossmembers you'll probably have to remove to get the tranny out. i'm not sure how it is on a fourth gen. but if you have a torque arm, lift the front end of the car up to take that off and leave the butt end of the car on the ground. it'll take pressure off that arm, otherwise it's got a load of tension on it and it's going to shoot up into the under-carriage of your car when you take the mount off. i'm not positive that will happen, but in my experience with that stupid torque arm it's the best way on my car to make the pressure non-existant.
other than that it's nothing extremely hard, just time-consuming

it's a pita on your back, especially without eh seal tool (it presses the new one in and seats it really handy)

cost my friend like 700 bucks to have the dealership do it thoe.

pays 4 hours if I remember right (I'll see if I can find my work tickets)

well we have all the tools that you would need and have anythign that is needed im just wondering exactly what problems or ne thing i may run into on this car.

just do what i said about that torque arm, it woulda helped me tons if i'd known about that when i did my clutch. i discovered that the tension is let off that arm when i replaced the mount for the torque arm three weeks ago and i only had the front end of the car up as opposed to the whole car off the ground.
