Check engine light...

ok my check engine light is on all the time and it doesnt bother me but the kid that might buy my car wants to know what it could be and why it comes on. The car runs great, it does blow smoke and has all emmisions hook ups. the only thign is the smog pump howls. it might just be the pulley but idk. He wants to get it checked out at the schools auto shop. im not in the class but he is, and i dont want it there all day, so im gonna try to get it in after school one day for him. its pissing me off tho cause now its like the only thing keeping me from selling it. Does anyone have any ideas what it might be.

I guess if you don't know what it is the only thing you can do is take it to a shop and let them run a test on it, because they can hook up to it and tell exactly what it is. If i remember right i paid $75 for them to check mine on my 1997 Camaro. Kind of steep but they found the problem. Just my 2cents.

go to autozone they'll check the codes for free, the check engine light means a sensor is seeing something wrong, and the engine may go into limp home mode and kill itself

ok, ill see about driving it there, but it has no plates or insurance so ill see if my dad will let me go sometime. that would be good tho cause there is one close to my house and i know all the guys. thanks for the advice.

i took it to autozone and they said they can only do it on 96+ cars because of obd2, but they said i could pull the codes myself and check it. where would the diagnostics port thing be? i looked quick cause it was snowing but not really well, so does ne one know where it is for suer?
