Is there any good brand any of you recommend? Im going to buy one, I found a meguiares one on ebay for like 30 shipped... Just wondering if theres any kudos you guys give anyone.

Cant wait to do it tho... Its gonna take a ton of **** off my car.

is there any down side to clay bars, harsh on the paint???

I feel they are all really about the same thing. I've Zanio in the past but I just bought a Tropi Care one off eBay a month or so ago. Basicly as long as you don't buy it from some really cheap company you should be fine.

I would get a Zaino, for that price. Just be careful when/where you use it. I used one outside one time, in a windy open area, and ended up picking up some dust or something and scuffing the whole car (buffed out, luckily). It sure is worth it though - the paint is super smooth afterward.

Very true, I normally claybar my car when it's in my garage.

Well what if theres already stuff in the paint, wouldnt that be picked up and scratch it also?

Ive been lookin for zaino, theyre harder to find.

Just go to walmart and get some play dough and rub that on the car.. It should work just as good...

Nah I got one from Advanced Auto and it worked wonders on the silver car! I can't wait till it gets nice out so I can use my new Tropi-Care samples I bought..

I dunno the one your seeing Paar, but meguiars claybar set, with the microfiber towel and everything is $19 here.

But yea, they work wonders. You cant go wrong with Meguiars imo.

Well, you gotta wash it first! :p Really, as long as you're careful, keep turning the clay, and using some type of lubricant (a mixture of car wash and water will do), it will be fine.

Zaino isn't usually available in stores, you usually have to buy it from a dealer or order it online.

Yeah you can just buy the Zaino clay bar from their website.

Damon is exactly right but I would like to add one thing to it. If you drop the clay bar through it away instantly. I normally have at least two just in case I do drop it.

Yeah I was lookin at some zaino ones earlier.. 17 for 2 i guess, then you have to buy their car wash jazz, for lube, which I would use to wash my car also... all in all would be like 30 shipped. I think I might go with the meguiars for now.. I cant seem to find them in stores honestly, Ill probably stick to online.

Anyone else have any little tips for detailing? I know Jpack told me about that homemade carwash formula, which serisouly kicks ***, and Ill never wash my car with regular brands again. Im gonna detail my car... MAYBE even this week, I dunno. Just looking for some stuff you guys use that works good for you.

picked up a meguiars kit today at autozone... $18. Ive never found them before, but Im glad I saved myself money.. well see how this kit does.

Good to hear. I think I'm going to use JPack's special car wash mix(Thanks Justin), and then claybar and wax the car tomorrow. Hopefully she'll look pretty sexy.

Make sure to wash your car with Dawn dish soap before using the clay bar. You want to strip all the wax off before doing it. And make sure you use 100% cotton towels, which I'm sure you already do.

Yeah I just was doing some reading on using dawn, which Ill use for the initial wash. And Ill be using microfiber towels for drying/buffing.

I was reading about people saying polish after claybarring... do you use some kind of polish brand, or is this just buffing? im confused.

Well, several companies will recommend using a polish before a wax. I'm sure you'd get good results, but I'm sure it's partly a ploy to get you to buy another product. If it's in your budget, definitely go ahead and do it. If it's not really in your budget, skip it. You'll get nearly as good results.

So can anyone explain to me what im polishing? am I just using a cloth, or some type of cleaner? Do I polish the whole car, or just areas that need to be. Recommended types?

Ill do it for sure if its recommended... My paint could really use it.

You polish the same parts of the car that you wax, and it's pretty much done the same way. It's just a different type of compound that works with the wax to produce a better shine and protects the paint better.
