Claybar?

got a few questions...

What does it look like.
Who makes it.
What does it do.
Is it hard to do.
Does it work good?
What do you do?

meissen 01-23-2005 10:20 PM

What does it look like - a bar.. of clay.
Who makes it - Many people, it's all the same EXACT product with different wrapping. I use Meguiar's personally.
What does it do - removes overspray and road grit from the paint
Is it hard to do - Heck nah! You spray some detail spray to "lube" the surface and then rub the claybar against it... At first it will sound like sand paper and then it will turn into a squeeky clean smooth surface
Does it work good? - YES!
What do you do? - Just said it. :D

NoRiceInside 01-24-2005 12:39 AM

archemedes 01-24-2005 12:41 AM

i was afraid to use it on my paint. So I have it, but I never used it. Hopefully this year. :)

meissen 01-24-2005 07:22 AM

I can't wait to use it on my car this spring, I know there's a lot of grit and grime that it's picked up over the winter. I was surprised when I first used it, my car seemed clean but **** I used it on the driverside front fender and it was getting all different colors from all the **** it was picking up. Made my car shine so much better.

Dang does it really work that good? I should have some good results w/ 11 year old black paint.

He just used a Clay Bar on his white boosted SE. I personally think it looks awsome.

All I did was claybar the car and wash it. No polish, no wax.

Shiela, I know I said it was with something else but I went to my site and actually looked (I knew I had pics with nothing but claybar and no wax/polish) and this was the one with no polish or wax.

I was talking to someone and they said that you can mess up your paint doing it? Is this an easy thing to do or should i let a professional do it?

archemedes 01-26-2005 10:02 PM

you can do it, heck a monkey could do it, follow the directions and your fine, the only way I could see you messing up the paint is if you don't use the "lube"

1BADVETTE 01-26-2005 10:02 PM

the reason someone would mess up the paint is that either:

A) They mashed the **** outta that clay bar on their paint, it doesn't take much pressure.
B) They didn't use a detailing spray to lube the surface befoer hand.
