clutch problems
Hey guys, I haven't been on here in quite awhile so hello to everyone. I'm going to be replacing my clutch for the third time since i bought my car, which was about 2 years ago. I have no idea why they're burning out so quickly, I don't ride the clutch or anything and as far as I know...I know how to drive a stick. Does anybody have any idea what could be happening or had similar issues. And if it is something that I could be doing I need to figure it out...Centerforce Dual friction is going in this week. Thanks

dont go with centerforce would be a good start......lol.
i would suggest a Ram clutch. |
why, is centerforce no good? i already purchased it
|
many people will tell you they are junk. i never had one, although i think they are similar to spec. Hit or Miss a lot of times. sounds like you're missing if your one your 3rd one.
i went with Ram and had no problems. out of all the research i found bad oppinions about every clutch company for LT1s except for Ram. centerforce sucks for the most part anyways, they design their clutches with a centrifugal weight system as far as i know that really sucks for a street car, hell even a race car. for Fox body mustangs they are supposed to be good. my buddy had one in an LS1 and hated it tho. shifting was always a hassle and the car wasnt drivable much. he went with an LS6 and has has no problems since. |
well this will be my 2nd centerforce, the other was a napa installed by a dealer...that one went after like 6 or 7 months. i need to figure out why this is happening, unless i just got the shaft and happened to have two bad clutches these past times.

I just had a customer who's car is at the dealer for the 3rd warranty centerforce, they claim it wasn't balanced correctly by them. Are you doing the flywheel also?
|
i didn't plan on doing the flywheel...unless that could be the issue
|
you will absolutely have to resurface the flywheel. if you didnt do it the last times, that could be a problem.

well i just got some news from the shop...my clutch was fine, it wasn't worn at all, but it was soaked in oil. so yea, now they have to figure out where it's leaking from.
|
soaked in oil would be trans or rear main probably, and from the sounds of it whichever one is low on fluid is the culprit
|
rear main im gonna assume?
they do leak after awhile |
thats really strange.... while the rear main would leak oil there, most of it would be caught up in the bellhousing(mine was). with the centrifugal force of the clutch, it almost seems impossible for it to get "soaked in oil"
|
its possible to have a soaked clutch and it will cause slipping and ect...we just replaced a clutch on a Miata, the thing grabs and goes! We also just recently rebuilt a TH350 with a street/strip shift kit, its a Jeep with a 350, we test drove it today, the thing actually has balls, ahahaha it was pretty damn quick for a Jeep. We had to test the tranny out, so it had to be accelerated to test the kick down cable for a passing gear, it has a slap shifter, 3 speed, it does pretty nice!
|
the guy at the shop said the rear main looked alright. the last i heard from him, he thought it might be from the oil pan...does that make any sense? i dunno
