97 V6

I'm still have that whole pain in my *** problem of the car just randomly dieing on me. dealership looked at it 3 separate times and they couldn't figure anything. then i took it to a mechanic that I've known for a few years and him and his friend had come to the assumption that it may be a crankshaft position sensor. he wants like 200 bucks for the job. to me it seems kinda high just for a sensor.. but as i look through my Haynes manual i see nothing on it. If anyone knows anything about this or a complete manual on the car it would be a great help. auto zone said its behind a crankshaft pulley but again Haynes manual says nothing on the topic. I'm hoping that this will be it and i can actually begin to enjoy my car when this whole winter storm stuff is done with.

it was bad enough to replace a knock sensor...im sure a crank shaft position sensor is going to be real fun...if its reading misfires, it may be more then your sensor...he needs to diagnose the issue of your car, replacing parts and then seeing if it fixed the prob is the wrong way to go...just saying.

Thats not overly high for that install. Fyi, the crankshaft is at the bottom of the motor, deep in the internals. Its not exactly easy to get to.

the crank sensor should be behind the balancer not internal, but it sucks to get to part is not cheap either. Check the icm harness (it plugs into the sensor and goes to the ignition module and pcm) it runs real close to the pulleys, and can get dislodged, and short pretty easy

In had the same problem what i did was i changed the plugs and wires and the crankshaft position sensor and the problem was solved but like everyone one has said it's not easy

for v8 f-bodies you have to take off the hub, waterpump, opti and i believe the timing chain cover to get to it. that also means you have to unscrew most of the oil pan bolts to get the timing chain cover off. i dont know if its the same for v6 f-bodies. not fun :(

part was only like 35 bucks. i had done a spark plug and wire change for about 200 bucks not including parts. it didn't solve the problem. but it did solve the problem of misfiring. none at all in the 6 times its been to a garage and had it die on them a few time can't figure out what the hell the problem is. and it you look at my last post on fuel pump it has been at least a year and well i only drive to and from work in it. i wont touch a free i don't even consider it as a possibility. thanks for all the help guys.

3.8? if so most likely the coil packs or the board they sit on(don't remember what its called) they are notorious for going bad been through a few myself
