dead camaro please help

So I have been planning and engine swap in my 2000 v6 camaro for about three years, last summer I bought a 04 corvette engine with 30,000 miles and was planning on putting it in this fall. Well my engine threw a rod yesterday and the engine is shot. I now have to decide whether to replace it with another v6 or push my swap up. I see no point in wasting the money on an engine that I’m just going to replace in 8 months or so. Anyways I need help, I know there is a website out there that clearly tells me what parts I need and such but I cant for the life or me remember what its is, if someone can help me out, Also any suggestions? Please don’t say sell everything and buy a v8 camaro, I have emotional value in this car and can’t get rid of it, so there has to be a swap. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Chris

Honestly, id suggest just buying a decent stock 3.8 shortblock, get the car running again and take your time with the v8 swap in a few months, that way you can research all parts needed etc properly.

Precisely.

A motor swap is not an easy thing. If you're really intending to do a swap, you should have been buying parts longgg ago. Swapping a motor into a car that isnt made for it is a tough job. I've had this convo with many people, but since you say you definately dont want to get rid of the car, just keep in mind, its going to take a decent amount of downtime when the car wont drive, that you're modifiying it to fit the motor, run correctly, and work all the kinks out.

Im not sure of the site you need honestly though.

Just start reading about it, Google is your friend. It can be done, people have done it. Just make sure you are getting all the right parts. I would say pick a year of Camaro and try and get all the parts you need.

Honestly probably your best bet would be to try and find a totalled LS1 Camaro and use that for your build-up. That way you can see exactly how stuff comes off and where- not to mention have most everything you need in one place instead of trying to gather all the parts you need one by one.

if you need a car buy a beater for a couple hundred bucks, and do the swap when you are ready you'll be money ahead that way as you can sell the beater when you get done and recoup your investment

I agree with arch and force fed.... buy a beater n find a wrecked ls1

These guys were a huge help to me in figuring out what I needed. I am also swapping an LS1 out of an 04 Vette into mine. Mines an 84 but they specialize in 1982-2002's so they should be able to help you as well.
