emmisions questions

does any one know about needing to have an air pump on later third gens. i heard its a 2,500 dollar fine for not having one. is it true and if so how hard is it to put one on a car that doesnt have one, along with the a.i.r. tubes going into the exhaust manifolds. any oen know any info about this stuff for illinois?thanks

if i take the car to get it tested with a cat, will they ever even open the hood or ne thing, and they will just say i passes or didnt pass? im thinking about registering it as a show car then i can drive it a little but not all the time. i will prolly only drive it whn i need to or on weekends and take it to the track but not pointless joy riding especially with gas prices.lol

every area is different, some if you do show car registration and get stopped after say 6 pm they can fine you check the whole thing over before deciding

if i get stopped in my car when its registered for show use, and im not going to a show or w/e what do they do? can i just say i was coming from my mechanic or something.

depends on local laws and the time of day, some states you have to actually fill out a form to drive it, I don't know IL MI it doesn't matter as long as it's under around 8000 miles anually (how do they check that)

69z-28 02-22-2005 11:02 PM

well hell, i will never drive more than 8000 miles anually. i heard that you can sometimes just pay the people off and they will pass you. true or no?

archemedes 02-22-2005 11:04 PM

maybe, just be careful asking (it's a felony that can cost you 15 years)

lol. alright. one last thing. ive heard about registering a car to another town that has no emmisions. but i dont have a residence or ne where that i could register the car to that has no emmisions. but i heard i can use a PO box like the mail boxes at the post office that you rent, and just register the car to that adress and if the town that the post office is in has no emmisions then im fine i will just have plates from w/e state i register the car in, which would proly be northern wisconsin if it worked out. know anything about that?

archemedes 02-22-2005 11:10 PM

again varies by state, some want proof of residence some you could tell the 351 main street and they give you a registration

ok. ill see what i can do. thanks for the help
