Engine swap

Do any of you know how difficult it would be to swap a v6 engine for a v8, preferably a 350, in my 87 lt? I know that i would not only need the ecu for the 350 but the wiring harness aswell, a new tranny, exhaust and a new rear. I'm not going to be swapping a 350 with a carb. unless there are some seriuos pros. I need some advice, Thanks!

If its gonna be street legal you need a smog pump and all the smog accesories. your car may not pass with a carb anyway because thats not what it came with from the factory and they are hard to tune correctly. If you want TBI or TPI that might be a little more work than a carb but would be worth it. I doubt engine mounts will be in the same places so it may also require some welding and maybe some front end modifications like new suspension possibly. A v8 is a lot heavier than a v6, your suspension should be fine but i would consider an upgrade. If ure car had rear wheel drive stock the rear end should be fine unless you are goin to be puttin a lot of power to the ground. Driveshaft you may need to replace if you swap for a 700 r4 for example. The splines are different on the transmissions sometimes but i would double check. As for the computer and wiring you will need all new and dont buy any cut harnesses those will do you no good. I would suggest getting headers designed for if your car had a v8 stock. And then just a y-pipe with a catback and you will be good to go!

ge a donor car and pull the engine, trans ecu, harness, and rear from it. It's not hard to do just expensive

It's not that tough... other than if you are going to try to put in fuel injection. I pulled my 2.8 out of mine and put in a 350 with a 700r4. Just buy motor mounts for an IROC and they bolt right in. The tranny mount needs to be changed to one for a 700 and that bolts right in. Drive shaft will work and the rear end will work until it breaks. Mine hasnt yet. I switched mine to a carb and it runs fine. It just takes time and some $$. If you know your way around the car, its no problem.
