Engine swap help???
 

HEllo guys. I was told that there is a 260HP Pontiac Grand PRix engine that get be swapped into a cavalier for a very affordable price. Do any of you think this is a good idea. BTW my origina; car is a 2003 Mustang Gt The cavalier i got for free from my neigbours son. Its a 1999 z24. So i was curious as to would it be a decent swap to gain more power. N juss rougly what the 1/4 times would be for it with the swap. Thnx in advance i appreicate u helpin me out.

U can swap in a 3.8 supercharged.
But this is not a cheap swap to do or you can look into the Quad4 swap.
Other things that would cost less over all then buying a new motor and trany would be to turbo or SC the motor thats in the car now.

Ether way no mater what you do it will cost you something.

the swap can be done, altho its not cheap. youll need the 3.8l engine (get the supercharged one) aswell as the 00-02 getrag tranny if you want 5speed. ur looking at low 13's with this swap.

If you go the sc v6 route you will have to mod the suspension as well to handle the extra weight that you going to be putting in, but the car should be pretty quick. I heard there is a girl in mississauga that did that swap to her sunfire and from what i heard her car is really fast.

i also suggest the quad 4 swap, MUCH MUCH lower budjet and MUCH MUCH MUCH MUUUUUUUUUUUCH less headache :)). and it still going to be fun-fast.

Just a side question, wouldn't that swap make a cavy very nose heavy? If its for drag I suppose it really doesnt matter that much though.

the 3.8 swap in total everything said an done cause its a OBD2 ur gunna need to mod the harness a bit more, u can go with a OBD1 3.8SC from like any bonneville SSEI or buick lesabre Supercharged a few cars had em 1996 and under, u can get complete cars for under $2000 running with decent motors, so u have everything u'd need for a swap, u can custom make your motor mounts, or u can use early 90's Grand am motor mounts which had the 3.3V6 which corresponds to the 3.8 motor mounting position as well. With a 5spd tranny, an obd1 3.8SC stock 200hp and 260lbs TQ will make that 3rd gen run low to high 14's give or take, but im my opinion for a 3rd gen, ur better off boosting the 2.2 Ecotec, much better motors reliably over compared to the 2.4 Twin cam in my opinion, however the twin cams are very good tourqy little things them selves. So it all comes down to how deep is ur pocket ;)

I wish i read the Chevy posts earlier.

In response to your question of swapping in a L67 3800 series V6 it will cost you more money then your car is worth. I only have a L36 and you just cant put on a supercharger. The engines are completely different with compression ratios to the spark plug (S/C engines run with colder plugs to produce maximum power. Heat = bad for boost :thumbsdow ).

You would also have to swap in the 4 speed auto tranny (yep the 3800 only came in auto Its a luxury... I can hear it now.. stick is better... stick is better). Yes it does run on OBD II. Yes you will need to reprogram your PCM.

Essentially what Im trying to get at is that this modification is not really worth your time because there are other mods that can offer you more "bang for your buck".

Look into the new Cobalt SS supercharged engines.. Those cobalts go 0 - 60mph in 6.0 flat.. I think Motor Trend did it in 5.9. But its up to you man. im just letting you know that is a Big bizatch.

actually thats not entirely true. the 5 speed isuzu tranny from the 95-99 2200/2.2 will bolt up. the getrag on the other hand wont.
