Exhaust Tip/Heat Question

I'm just wondering if anyone has ever had a problem with their exhaust tips being to close to the bumper cover, and possibly getting too hot? I ask because I'm installing my Ground Effects tomorrow, and I think the passenger side might be very close to actually touching the urethane piece. The rear valance was held in place when they did the exhaust, but after 3 months, we test fit them today, and now it's really close.:ne_nau: I think because it sat in a cold shop for that long, the section where the passenger tip exits kinda warped a little.

I've seen a few pictures in the past of peoples exhaust tips that were actually touching, or within like 1/8 of an inch from the rear bumper cover, but it didn't really look like there were any burn marks.....so I thought I would see what you guys had to say about. Do they even get hot enough to start melting it? I am going to at least try and apply a little pressure on that side of the exhaust, while stablizing the other side.....maybe I can get the bracket to bend a little. We've heated that area and tried to get it to retain it's shape....unfortunately it keeps coming back. I suppose I can always make a small L-shaped bracket and mount it behind that spot to keep from bending down.

I think Grant had this problem... I could be wrong though.

well it does happen. my trans am is fine, and although the bumper does wrap around the tips quite a bit, my camaro actually had a bigger problem with it. the paint simply chips off.

No, no problem that ive ever had. Although once i pull off my side exiting idea i'll tell you if it's a prob. LOL

as long as there is some clearance (even a 1/4 in) you'll be fine that urethane is designed to handle some heat

like arch said you should be okay... but I did burn my leg on an exhaust tip once

i get balck marks and when it is cold out the condenstion after short rides freezes there... i got to get a torch or somehitng to bend it down about 1/2 inch(theres like a 1/4 inch now)
