Flashing SES light

What does it mean when your SES light flashes?? I havent had a problem with it lately.. Last June it came on a few times throughout the month... I figured it was probably my EGR since I have an exhaust leak right where the EGR connects to the headers... After June it has never turned on.

About a week and a half ago when I started my car up in freezing cold weather it turned on, stayed on for a few days, then shut off. Then just today while I had the cruise control on at about 60 it just came on then started flashing... Then it would stay solid, then flash again. It did this a couple times, then now its still on.

Im kinda worried, I havent had it flash before... is this like a "youre ****** if you dont bring it somewhere immediately" warning? The only thing Im thinking could be the exhaust EGR leak, or maybe an O2 sensor? Hopefully its somthing like that because I could care less then... Im worried its somthing else. The car seems to be running the same, although the pitch of the rpms seemed to change in cruise when the light came on and started flashing.. maybe I was imagining it, I dunno. Just wondering if anyone knows what the flashing means? TIA.

Well, it usually means a rather drastic DTC.

The only time my car has ever had that happen was when I accidentally reversed two plug wires and it was skipping like crazy.

Just goto Autozone or something and let them scan it for free.

I doubt it would be anything that needs IMMEDIATE car threatening attention though.

just get it scanned. i really dont because its flashing means anything more than it just throwing a code.

not sure if its the same for GM but when the check engine light on my dodge ram flashes it means a misfire has been detected. but i agree take it to auto zone and get it scanned. the one by my house knows when i go in there that i am gonna use the scanner lol

Well I went and got it checked today... Had misfire, which Im guessing was the flashing code.

Then I had another, which was a P0155, malfunction in heater circuit, Bank 2 Sensor 1.. Which I figured it was probably an 02... What does the malfunction in heater ciruit mean though? Cause the code would have came back on if it was a bad sensor... Did it just **** up for a day or what? lol

That does happen sometimes.

But what about the missfire? Thats not a good sign man.

Misfires are like the most common problem with 3800s... EVERYONE gets those haha. Granted, Ive only had it happen about 3 times in the 2.5 years Ive owned it, but never like this while Im driving, its been after I started up the car.

This spring though, Im going through with a fine comb and doing a good tune... Im gonna check my spark plugs out after a year and see how theyre wearing, and check some other stuff also.
