What do you think?

Mike Jones 02-20-2005 12:00 AM

Good price too.

RFF 02-20-2005 12:02 AM

Yep, but the description of the engine for some reason confuses me. I mean how can you found out what year the block is, what did it come out of, and how many bolt main?

RFF 02-20-2005 01:15 AM

I wish I could find a long black like this without the cam but so far no luck. :(

archemedes 02-20-2005 01:17 AM

10125327...350...92-up...2 or 4...Gen.II LT-1, reverse flow cooling
10125327...350...96-up...2 or 4...Gen.II LT-4, reverse flow cooling
from mortech could be either and from '92 up with the casting number given could have been anything, but with all the work done it doesn't matter what it came out of, it's the same block for anything that had an lt1 or lt4

RFF 02-20-2005 01:25 AM

So Arch in your opinion does this seem like a good deal? I liked the 396 crate engine I saw, only problem is that it wasn't built for nitrous (wrong cam), with this short block I could do a better build myself.

archemedes 02-20-2005 01:26 AM

it's a good price, you couldn't do it for that money

RFF 02-20-2005 01:29 AM

I'm glad ot hear that, what do you think of the internals they put in the engine? How much power do think it could stand? I also want to send off the heads and pistons and head to LPE and have them converted to 18 degree heads, should help me a lot on the power gains

archemedes 02-20-2005 01:39 AM

those internals are fine, clevite bearings are very good, as for how much power the pistons are the weak point (they are cast) but still more than the body of your car will take

RFF 02-20-2005 01:47 AM

I'm really liking what I'm hearing arch, Monday I'm going to give these guys a call and get the ball rolling, I'm wondering if I get some LT4 head with it?

archemedes 02-20-2005 01:48 AM

it says heads aditional $150 so probably lt1 they may have lt4 ones though if not summit has the whole kit in their new catalog for around $1200 (almost as much as the rest of the motor)

RFF 02-20-2005 01:50 AM

Yep, I know Summit sells the kit in pieces (don't want the hot cam) so I might be able to ge the heads and intake for around 800-1K.

RFF 02-20-2005 01:58 AM

The one problem I'm going to have is that I have no engine hoist just a stand. :(

archemedes 02-20-2005 02:09 AM

rent a hoist it's like $25

RFF 02-20-2005 02:15 AM

True, I wonder if that shipping charge is for home delivery or business? Either way I think I'm finally going to start my build, one of the best things is I will be getting rid of the Opti.:)

archemedes 02-20-2005 02:19 AM

call and ask I bet you could get it delivered to your business (work)

That is what I was thinking, I'm sure my manger won't mine.

archemedes 02-20-2005 02:21 AM

may not notice

RFF 02-20-2005 02:27 AM

No he would notice, the O'Reilly's I work at is not that busy we may do an engine a mouth if were lucky.

RFF 02-20-2005 02:33 AM

Oh yeah and I have to find a place to store the engine.

RFF 02-21-2005 12:57 AM

3 Attachment(s)
41 dollars and some change later I have an engine stand. :)

camaro94 02-21-2005 01:03 AM

you're on your way. ;)

RFF 02-21-2005 01:11 AM

I was wodering does anybody know would I need ot change the lifters, pushrod, and and rockers if I changed the came that the engine is coming with?

archemedes 02-21-2005 01:23 AM

probably not it should be roller lifters, and if it hasn't been run it won't matter either, may want to change the lifters to a performance type as well as pushrods just for reliability sake (not that there is anything wrong with the stock ones)

RFF 02-21-2005 02:55 PM

So basically they rebuilt the engine using only stock parts it, so all of the internals would need to be changed anyway it seems.

archemedes 02-21-2005 06:48 PM

not necessarily, rods and crank would be fine heck the pistons would even be fine for most performance uses (not to mention quieter and longer lasting than forged)

RFF 02-23-2005 03:23 PM

Well the 383 idea just went out the window today.
