fuel gauge

the other day my car wouldn't start it's a 99 v6 camaro so i was getting ready to start it i noticed my gas gauge jumped past the full mark and is stuck on a piece of plastic does anyone know why and how i can fix this problem

You just have to take apart the cluster and get the knob back in the right spot. As per why that happened, and why it wouldnt start, it could be the cluster that made the gauge flip out, or the sending unit in the fuel pump.

could be the sending unit, I know I think I have a bad sending unit or a short somewhere with mine as when I brake the gas guage goes way down and then back up when I put it in Neutral.
