Getting a T-5

Well I should if all goes good I should be getting a WC T-5 today... I know everyone is going to say not to get it will break and so on, I have a dodge ram so if I break it I will just get the G-force gear set for it and drive my ram while I am fixing it! As some of you know I have been looking for a 5 speed for a while I was in the local automotive shop here and they had it on the classifed board. So I pretty excited about it I just need to get the rest of the parts and I will start installing it! Any suggestion on which clutch I should go with??

blue89vert 01-10-2007 01:45 PM

go with a stage 3 clutch i think thats what matt got in his car.

Phate 01-10-2007 01:58 PM

Well, I myself love SPEC. Im running a SPEC Stage 3 in my t-5 as we speak, granted is a very very stiff clutch for daily driving. Some people dont like SPEC, but i've had no problems whatsoever.

spec stage 3 = T-5 EATER, if i were you, if your gettign this trans for cheap then id sell it agian and get the t-56, because you sounds like you have enough money if your looking to get the g-force gear set, i havnt heard enough good bout the t56 and i havnt heard that much good about g force, and you can find t56's for about 1000 bucks alot of places.

No I dont have that kind of money! lol I am hoping that by the tim eit breaks I will be promoted and be manager at publix where I am making good money lol. But this is my have fun car, its so much more fun slamming gears!

Im not sure about your mods, but if you still have th 305, the t5 should last as long as you dont powershift the helll out of it. Definately dont put a spec3 in it. It hits way to hard for a stock t5. You want to get a clutch that will hold the power, but one that does not shock the drivetrain so hard. Any of the street replacement clutches by zoom, hays, or ram should suit your needs. Clutches

If you do break it give tony at astroperformance.com a call. He built the super t5 that is in my notch. Its fairly quiet and shifts smoothly. I would stay away from the G force, I broke one on the street on street tires. I had thier reccomended clutch in it and G foece did not stand behind thier product.
If your up for a little reading here are a couple links about the G force and the super T5:

BTW this is what a Spec 3 did to my input shaft on the cobra: http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c2...x/100_1206.jpg
It snapped my buddy brians complatly off like a twig, now we both sport liberty 26spl input shafts (based on an ls1 input shaft, lol)
Astro's super T5

I wouldnt see why you couldnt have the gear set put in a GM case. As you can tell the gears ar very stout. the only issue that I can think of is the pilot bushing diameter, I think that the Chevy has a smaller I.D pilot bushing. yo can probably have one made.

Yeah that works, but it looks like it's not going back together. LOL

niceroc 01-15-2007 01:37 PM

yea, eveyone says theyll last behind a 305 if you dont powershift it but, it didnt last behind mine, i didnt power shift it or anyhting and it took a ****, wasdnt too pissed off because i was planning on gernading it behind the 454 anyways

Well, I changed from the old BW T-5 and went with a WC T-5 in my '83...

I'm also running the G Force kit, and no problems so far. It's behind my 400-ish small block. It engine dynoed at 490 TQ, 390 HP at the fly, less of course at the rear wheels. I'm not waving any G Force banner, just saying I myself haven't had a problem yet.

I'm using a Centerforce DF clutch in it, and I was suprised that it's actually easier to push in the clutch than the stock clutch was. I'd recommend it.

Alrights thanks everyone! I got it, picked it up for $200 with a shifter and bellhousing WC with the 26 spline input. I am kinda just waiting on it because I will have to redo my whole exhaust I have full lenght headers which will not allow for the throwout fork to fit:( . But its all good I have one for when I feel like tackling the project or my auto takes a ****! Right now I pretty much driving the maro for I know it sounds strange but gas mileage.. It gets 16-18 and I have been driving it pretty easy, where as my truck no matter how you drive it gets 10-11 in town and NO more than 16 on the highway. Got Love the 360! but it will tow 9,000 LB

niceroc 01-16-2007 10:49 AM

ypou can modify the headers to clear thre slave cylinder, theres alot of posts on TGO on it

Camarocam 01-17-2007 01:07 PM
